Photographer's Note
This is the town of Villeneuve-les-Avignon which lies on the other side of the Rhone River from Avignon. On the hill behind the stone houses is the Fort of St Andre, built in the 1300s. It is a ruin now, but the outer walls are still in good shape, and tourists can visit several rooms inside the towers and walk along the battlements - great fun! I took the photo as I was walking back to Avignon after visiting the fort, and I looked back and saw this view bathed in warm afternoon light.

Hello Vincent,
This is a beautiful view and a very nicely composed photo with a fine rhythm of green and grey/brown. It somehow makes me think of a painting by C騷anne!
Regards,
Gert

Hello Vincent,
One of the treats of visiting France is the the abundance of huge chateaux to visit! This one, though described as a ruin, looks very grand from this angle.
I really like your chosen viewpoint, which clearly reveals the details of stone houses, acting like steps towards the imposing details of the castle walls.
Lovely, true colours.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Vincent,
A great photo of this town on a pleasant and bright day. I really like how the tall and impressive walls and round tower of the fortress are seen right behind the row of green trees and the small houses and their orange roofs. Well done.

Hello Vince,
A very picturesque village protected by a huge fortress that towers high above the houses.
Beautiful composition with the alternation of greenery and buildings.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Vincent, I like the contrast between the strong walls of the fort and the smaller houses with their pan tiled roofs.
The trees and hedge frame the buildings nicely.
Very good sharpness.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Vincent,
I see like many of us you are also oscillating between present day photos and archives. THis was such a great trip judging by your photos.
Great composition with the little houses at the foothill of the fortress. The light was good and well brought out the colors. The vegetation well frames on both sides but also adds extra layers horizontally.
Very picturesque and makes me think that I didn't see much of this country yet.
Excellent work,
M

Hi Vincent.
Wonderful composition, with the notable contrast of the powerful tower and castle walls and the fragile houses at the foot of it, the trees greatly embellish the image.
Superb sky, wonderful colors, splendid light and excellent clarity.
Very well done.
Have a good day.

Hi Vincent,
The trees are framing well the fort. The point of view is shopwing the details of the houses and of the Fort St.Andre. The quality pf the lights beautifies the colors. Have a nice day.
