Photographer's Note
This is the view over the odeon in Lyon, part of the ancient Roman ruins on Fourviere Hill. I read in a book that the ruins were found in 1930 by nuns digging in the grounds of their convent. I wondered how this might have happened. Maybe it went something like this (in the form of a play):
Sister Marie runs into the convent and says to the Mother Superior: Guess what I found while I was digging in the vegetable garden!
Mother Superior: A dragonfly?
Sister Marie: No
Mother Superior: A gold ring?
Sister Marie: You mean one ring to rule them all?
Mother Superior: No, that book hasn't been written yet. Just an ordinary gold ring.
Sister Marie: No.
Mother Superior: A carrot with an "interesting" shape.
Sister Marie: Mother Superior! If you're thinking what I'm thinking, you should be ashamed of yourself!
Mother Superior: OK. What did you find while digging in the vegetable garden?
Sister Marie: An ancient Roman town complete with a theatre and odeon.
Mother Superior looks out the back door and sees a fully excavated Roman town complete with a theatre and odeon.
Mother Superior: Incredible! You've been busy!
Sister Marie: Well you know me. Once I start digging I just get "into the zone".
Mother Superior: You certainly hit archeological gold there. By the way, what's an odeon?
Just then all the other nuns enter to see what the excitement is about.
Mother Superior (to the nuns): Guess what Sister Marie found while digging in the vegetable garden.
Nuns: A carrot with an "interesting" shape?
Mother Superior: Sisters! You should ashamed of yourselves! No, she found an ancient Roman town complete with a theatre and odeon.
The nuns look out the back door and see the excavated ruins of the Roman town.
Nuns: Incredible! Amazing! What's an odeon?
In case you don't know, an odeon is a small theatre used for poetry recitals and musical shows.

Hello Vincent,
We used to have lots of Odeons in the U.K. They were the grandest, most fashionable cinemas! It's easy to understand where the name came from!
Your unusual explanation was entertaining!
You have composed the photograph well.
The odeon, which would normally have had people viewing actions on stage, is now one third of the frame, viewing the vastness of the city of Lyon.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Vincent,
A great view of the city in the distance and the Roman ruins provide a wonderful foreground as well. I like the well-saturated colours, especially the green and orange parts.

Hi Vince
On my visit, just a month after you there was work equipment all over the place so you got to take this good photo looking over the Odeon without distractions. You also scored a day without haze over the city.
Cheers
Ian

Hi Vincent,
Fantastic panoramic view over the town with the amphitheatre in the foreground. The note is very humorous and creative! I have never seen a note written in a form of a play.
