Photographer's Note
The St Pierre cathedral in Beauvais has the highest Gothic choir of France (at least), close to 48m!!! The cathedral of Beauvais is one of the most recent Gothic cathedrals in france, its construction lasted from XIIIth in XVIth century.
The title of the photograph evokes the competition between the different bishops to build the most beautiful cathedral. The neighbour city of Amiens built its immense cathedral (the largest Gothic cathedral of France). The bishop of Beauvais absolutely made a point of exceeding its rival. It was thus decided to build the largest Gothic cathedral ever built. Unfortunately, the project couldn't be implemented because of marshy ground and the war of 100 years, for lack of sufficient techniques and financial means .
The cathedral St Pierre of Beauvais will never be completed, leaving Amiens without rival. The cathedral of Beauvais is composed only of the chorus, the transept and the d饌mbulatoire. The stop of the project made it possible however to preserve on the one hand a part of the old Carolingian church ("Low Work") and on the other hand extremely rare elements, such as a wheel located under the roofs which made it possible to raise the stones to build the cathedral. The cathedral is also private of arrow since its collapse in XV鑪e century.

hello Delphine,
C'est inhabituel, rare et presque fascinant! c'est tres reussi mon sens. Le graphisme du gothique est parfaitement mis en valeur grace une tres bonne exploitation de la lumi鑽e.
Bravo et merci de nous avoir donn voir autrement.
Cordialement.

Hello Delphine. This photo of yours has to be one of the most stunning captures of Gothic design I have ever seen. The height is incredible and the repeating patterns become so evident with this vertical viewpoint. Excellent shot indeed. Its the kind of photo I would take first if I were to enter this place. Thanks for sharing...great perspective!!
