When the sun shines on the Mangturm (Tower , its colorful roof catches its yellow upper story,. It looks like a second lighthouse on the harbor promenade.� At one time it was a lighthouse, This square stone tower level was built in the 12th century as part of the town痴 medieval fortifications and as a lookout.The inscription on the tower痴 wall reads: 典o protect and defend the harbor � a powerful symbol of the former Imperial '� Free City of Lindau�.

The tower stands 20 meters tall with arrow slits in its walls. At one time, it was surrounded by water and could only be reached via a drawbridge. This made it a perfect lookout at the end of the town wall.
In 1856 a new lighthouse was erected and the Mangturm lost its job as a lookout and signaling station. An extra level was added and it was covered with the striking glazed roof tiles. Some photos of this tower show a long, blonde plait that has been let down from one of the arrow slits. This refers to the tale of Rapunzel and is part of the storytelling events that often take place in this historic building. Whether you want to listen to the fairy tales or simply gaze out at the wonderful view, To get this view you have to climb the 89 steps up to the roof. But don稚 worry, each of the five stories invite you to take a little break. The inner walls of the tower are decorated with amusing anecdotes and fascinating facts about Lindau and Lake Constance.

This shot shows the mass of humanity arriving in Lindau. The tower is impressive, I am going to look for a shot that has both the tower and the lighthouse. Maybe tomorrow. I will stay with Lindau for a bit and then move on to the next village on Bodensee.

Hello Roger,
A delightful scene to contemplate with a fine ensemble of architecture to admire and this relaxed summery atmosphere. The image is well composed with the focal point of the tower placed to one side. The whole is well exposed and has good colours and clarity.

I show another aspect of Mainz cathedral today and again tomorrow.

The distance between the Mangturm and the bell tower in the background is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the Mangturm and of the buildings. The good luminosity is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

We can see a lot in this rich and colorful composition . Of course the beautiful square tower and its amazing roof . But also other interesting buildings , the crowd of tourists , and a little of the superb emerald water of the Boden see .
