Maritime Hamburg

A view of a part of the banks of the river Elbe near the heart of Hamburg, where the city痴 maritime heritage is all around you. Located on the rive Elbe, 110 km from its mouth to the North Sea, Hamburg has been an important port since it was founded by Frederick I in 1189. Hamburg was a member of the Hanseatic League in the late Middle Ages and considered the second most important Hanseatic city after Lbeck. Nowadays, it is the third-busiest port in Europe, after Rotterdam and Antwerp.
