Reichstag

This is of course a very classic view of the Reichstag in Berlin, but I couldn稚 resist posting it, because of the sunlight, the sky in the background and the simple fact that this photo is so much better than the one I posted 15 years ago (https://www.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=8&p=153957).

The Reichstag is the meeting place of the Bundestag, the parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland). It was built between 1884 and 1894 and subsequently used as the Imperial Diet of the German Empire, the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic and the Reichstag of Nazi Germany until 1933, when it was set on fire, allegedly by Dutchman Marinus van der Lubbe. The damaged building wasn稚 fully restored until after the German reunification in 1990. The reconstruction was led by architect Norman Foster, who also added a large glass dome to the building.

The photo was taken from the large grassy square called Platz der Republik. The Flagge der Einheit (Flag of Unity) is seen in front of the building. The text in the frieze reads 泥em deutschen Volke, meaning 典o the German People.
