Brandenburger Tor

Let痴 do another Berlin classic with this picture of the city痴 most famous landmark, the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate). Again the sunlight and sky were so attractive here, which means this photo is also much better than the one I posted fifteen years ago: https://www.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=8&p=152112.

A neoclassical city gate, it was built between 1788 and 1791 on the order of King Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia. It is located at the end of the boulevard Unter den Linden, at the square called Pariser Platz. With the Berlin Wall passing directly by the western side of the gate, the Brandenburger Tor became a symbol of freedom and unity after the end of the Cold War and the German reunification.

The Berliner Fernsehturm (Berlin Television Tower) is seen in the distance, just as the tower of the Rotes Rathaus (Red City Hall).
