Archival Postcard from Wismar, a photo from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, East

Photographer's Note

I have so many photos from the pre-digital times in my archives... One of the lovely destinations I have visited in the old times and which I didn稚 have a chance to present here is Wismar. I would think it should be a popular tourist destination but judging by number of photos on TrekEarth there were just two or three TrekEarth members who have visited it. The most recent reportage from Wismar was by Lars (Tue). When I browse through my Wismar photos, I have following problems. I have either a family member in them or my compositions are very tight. I didn稚 have the wide angle zoom then and too often I am just too close to the subject. No way to rescue it now.
One of the most photogenic subjects in Wismar is the old water fountain, well for the reasons above I will not show it here but instead what you see in this picture is a view which you have when standing on the stairs of the fountain. The fountain itself you can admire in Lars� photo here:

I really liked Wismar, a very charming town (thanks for the link) and this part you show here is probably one of the most charming parts of it. The fa軋des are so wonderful, particularly the one at left. Well captured in a fine light.

This is an excellent scan so you must explore more of your film archive. @005 was the year I went digital.

Good morning Mariusz,
Wonderful architecture in this square, the hotel on mid-picture looks cozy and inviting and the red-bricks edifice on left has an outstanding design..
Also, the included lamp-post adds much scale to appreciate the scale - but, you might had included the large pavilion of the "Wasserkunst" on this spot - as I saw in the Google-map at percisely 53.89117, 11.4664.

Hello Mariusz,

You must find it interesting looking back at your photographs and, from your notes, it sounds as if you have been able to make very useful comparisons between digital and pre digital photography.

This is a very picturesque photograph.
Of the three buildings, those either side show a very unusual but distinctive similarity; a tiered effect, possibly to make them look more imposing from the front.

You have anchored the f/g nicely with the tall, quite ornate lamp.

Hello Mariusz,
It certainly looks like a city to enjoy the architecture.
A vivid red facade contrasts with another one painted in soft tones and a third in brick.
Good inclusion of the lamp post and the fence in the foreground to give the picture more depth.
Presumably you could not take a step to the left so that the lamp post would be placed slightly more to the right.

we can see as the two fa軋des in the right and left side of the compo has the same aspect, probably a typical architectonic style of the region. nice inclusion of the big lamp post in evidence.

Hi Mariusz.
From what I read in your note, I suppose this image is scanned from older photos, the quality is excellent.
This corner that you capture here with the three facades so different, but each one precious in its style, the lamppost is very original, I see the gate of the fountain, that I have gone to see it in the photo of Lars and it is beautiful in the center of Square.
Great color that highlights the beauty of the image.
Very well managed both the brightness and the sharpness of the image.
