Photographer's Note
We AHR Altenburg.
This village, an upstream fraction of picturesque Altenahr, was perhaps the most severely stricken one among the Ahr valley communities. Water dammed up before two railway bridges that were congested with cars, trees, mobile homes and other objects. The floods reached far into the 1st floors of approx. 95 percent of the village's buildings, including two schools and one seniors' residence. My impression was that of a dead settlement.
All smaller bridges were washed away, and the local camping ground was completely erased.
If you miss the river: it flows between POV and chapel.
