CORFU, a photo from Kerkyra, Ionian Islands

Photographer's Note

This is an another photo from Corfu.

The island is approximately eight miles in length and tipped up towards the west. The west coast is dominated by steep white, chalky cliffs that are greatly eroded at sea level, and harbour many 'blue caves', which can be explored on launches departing from Gaios. Much of the attractive landscape is still covered in olive groves. These stretch from Lakka, the harbour community in the north, through Magazia to Gaios, the capital. Olive oil making, soap manufacture and fishing were supplanted by tourism as the main industry in the mid sixties, resulting in a construction boom, which has greatly altered the coastline around Gaios, the capital of the Paxiot demos. There are ferry and jetfoil connections daily with Kerkyra (Corfu) and with the mainland at Parga.

This photo has an amazing sharpness and clarity. The many tones of grey and light brown on the steep side of the rock are very well captured and beautiful. The people seen standing on top of the hill are watching a fantastic view across the sea.

These rugged cliffs are delightful to see. Beautifully captured under a sympathetic ambient light. The waves crashing on the rocks give the composition a sense of dynamism. Well exposed with superb colour contrasts and excellent sharpness.

Light creates beautiful contrasts an those rough rock cliffs. Clear green water looks lovely, but swimming between these rocks is not necessarily a good idea.

Privet Serghei

Corfu is just a short boat trip north of Kefalonia and Zakynthos. The water here is an equally beautiful turquoise colour. I stayed at Pelekas Beach which offered similar views. Well composed using the rule of thirds with good sharpness and nice warm cold colour contrasts. Tfs!

Hi Serghei,
very impressive coastal view from Corfu. I have never been there so I was not sure what to expect. This looks very encouraging, the rock formations seem so wild and colorful.
We don't see any people around, it is hard to imagine that such a popular destination is deserted.
