Photographer's Note
Hi friends.
Today I make a daily pause from my posting from the trade mark in Argos Orestikon and I post an old Macedonian coin.
This coin you see here is coinaged about 180-250 B.C. in Apolonia it is today in Bulgaria.
This what you see here images Hercules and the other side I have on WS images God Dionysus
This is a silver coin and here I show you the side where is written in Greek:
The left virgule word: ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ=SOTIROS=SAVIOR担
The right virgule word: ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟΥΣ=IRAKLEOUS=HERCULES, in genitive
The down parallel word: ΘΑΣΙΩΝ (in genitive plural) =THASION=THASIANS=habitants of Thasos island.
Hercules in Greek myth is accounted as the primogenitor of Dorians and as a half God was is some regions something like a saint saviour for today.
An other demonstration that Macedonia means Greece and not that what the falsification of the history of my land makes out.
The coin is now as bijou on neck.
These few information I have from a book with the title 敵reek coins through the ages and there are many coins inside and I found also a photo with the almost exactly image.
Sorry for my omission to write it at the beginning that the chain and the around gold is added some years ago from now to be used as a bijou.
here you visit a web site for more ancient coins
Thanks to all

Dear Vaggelis
A very nice composition with this beautiful Macedonian coin with Greek lettering part of long standing prehistory - history. I like the royal red background that intensifies the effect and the royalty of the coin.

Hello dear Evan,
The shot for itself is great. Very nice composed and good light on. Good sharpness. But even better, the info's and links you have given together. Wonderfull TE job done my friend.
Could you find out if the chain was original or been added sometimes later? As, (as far as I know) to put rings and chains on antic coins, is a habit of modern times.
TFS and best regards

Hi Evan,
Wonderfully detailed capture of this ancient currency. The colors are very complimentary with the perfect copper background. I wonder how many of these to buy a good chariot?

Geia Sou Evan,
I aolso knew that coins depicting the hero Herakles, from whom the Macedonian royal family claimed descent, are particularly significant in the development of the Hellenistic coin portrait. This close up you show with excellent focus and amazing colours is very beautiful. Congratulations.
Regards.

Nice work Evan. Great detail, excellent idea. When are you going to give it back to the museum?
(just a joke)
Maybe the image of Hercules (Iraklis) is not so tough as you would expect - what do you think?

Hello Evan,
So it must be right before Rome dominated Macedonia and in fact all of Greece, am I right? One usually needs a flat-field macro lens for such photography but yours looks very good. Regards,

Hello Evangelos,
I love antiques, and good photos of antiques. Of course, in America they speak of antiques of 150-200 years. In Greece, Turkey, Egypt in the Middle East 150-200 years was yesterday. This is a beautiful coin, exquisitely displayed. I hope that it is around your neck.
Warm regards,
Bulent
