Photographer's Note
A fa軋de in a side street of Platanos, a district with quite a few old urban houses on the top of the hill separating Ayia Marina from Pandeli. This house lies less than a hundred metres from the Town Hall and opposite the county court but the street is very narrow and generally quiet.
I think the shadows make this view more interesting but the shadow on the door may be too dense, I couldn't deal with it any better.
Thank you for visiting

Hello Ourania,
A weathered but very nice facade.
Very beautiful with the balcony and the diagonal lines of its shadow.
I also like the alternation of the sunlit parts and the parts in the shadow.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ourania,
If you had really needed to bring more details out of the shadow on the door, the "shadows/highlights" could easily have done that, provided you have such a tool. On the other hand I don't see that it is needed in this case. Dense shadows describe the true circumstances and should be accepted, as long as they don't spoil the picture or hide something very essential. That is not the case here. This is a fine fa軋de, and your title describes the composition accurately. This building looks quite well maintained and I like the ochra coloured surface. The shadows add a certain liveliness to the view. I am surprised to see such an urban street on Leros. I thought this was Athens.
Kind regards,
Gert

Good evening, Ourania,
Glad to see another interesting photo from Leros. I am tired of the snow and frost and I miss the summer and warm countries. Greece, for example. Thanks for memories, clever composition, fine details of the building. Good title for this photo.
Best wishes,
Serghei

Hello Ourania
A beautiful tight frame with lovely old world charm. The facade of the building with its beautiful wrought iron balcony makes a very pleasing composition with excellent details and clarity. The play of light and shadows both on the building and the road is wonderful. Thanks for sharing and have a nice evening.
best regards

I really like this shot Ourania.
The light and shade add ambience and reality and I don't think the door is too dark, there is good detail in the shadow and overall I think the management is well balanced and attractive. The old fa軋de has charm and beauty despite the ravages of time clearly visible on the wooden shutters and the rendering.
A well managed and appealing shot.
Warm regards

You did fine with the shadows, Ourania, not everithing play the way we would like to see as photographers, the surrounding conditions may dictate otherwise.
Anyway, I find this picture conveys well the urban neighbourhood there, sharp details and the angle upon gave extra depth. The iron balcony is an attractive element on the image.

Hello Ourania,
I agree with you absolutely - it is indeed the wonderful light which makes this one so special. Oh, as well as the skill of the photographer, of course! :o)
There are wonderful "lead in" lines provided by the line between the wall and the pavement and by the balcony and shuttered windows above and that make for a strong composition. But it is the beautiful dappled light and shade (presumably from nearby trees) on this fa軋de which is so appealing.
I note your comment about that door in the foreground but I feel you do not need to worry about that - yes, there are strong contrasts there but we can see perfect details in the very deepest shadows and also in the very brightest parts too.
A fine photograph with lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and excellent details and clarity.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards.
John.

Hi Ourania,
Ooh, another tough call for me this afternoon, I loved the clouds from your most recent picture...but i just can't bypass the play of light and shade with this one. :) From the thumbnail image, it was the aspect that jumped out and had my mind trying to envision the tree(s) that stand on the other side of the street projecting these effects. I'm always down for a good door, window, or street lamp...and when you combine that with rustic colors and vivid texture like this, well...you got me hooked! :) And if that's not enough, you found a scene with the blue color mixed in, albeit faded...but still grabs my attention. A smart composition that includes essential daily life elements that work together in one pleasing frame. Top to bottom interest, a beauty! Enjoy the new day. All the best.
Friendly wishes,
Jason

Hello Ourania,
Excellent old house fa軋de close-up photo with very nice colors, perfect light, very good clarity. Excellent details and superb light & shadow play. I like the balcony placement in the upper left corner. The well-chosen tight crop eliminates all unwanted distractions.
Very well done.

Kalispera Ourania querida
As I said before, very similar at some old houses in Argentina (all ver the country), must post some
Shadows are part of the capture as are electical wires
Here the main elements are well illuminated, iron balcony, windows and part of the door
Also present is a catching color contrast
Well done, warm regards

Hello Ourania
The steel blue doors and windows contrast well against the rust red and yellowish walls of the buildings. Well composed with the diagonals coming in from the bottom right corner. Excellent sharpness and of course, very effective tight framing. Sometimes less is more! Tfs!

Hello Ourania,
How precious are these old houses with intricate decorations and character accumulated through the decades of their existence. One of these years, I am hoping I might see these places (and Patmos, too) for myself.
We are finally seeing signs of spring here in the northeast of the U. S. of A. A few days of sunny weather and everybody becomes more cheerful!
I think you managed the light just fine in this photo. I can make out the panels of both wings of the door, so I think you have enough light there, too.
Cheers,
MT

Cara Ourania
This type of architecture made me think immediately of Southern Italy. Funny isn't it, how the two places share such similarity, I guess that's another debt of gratitude we owe to the Greeks! I like the vertical frame you used. The colours are lovely and you captured the details of this exquisite door and window very skilfully. I really like the shady effect, it adds mood and character in my humble opinion. I see that there is quite an incline in the road, so I take a bow at your trekking efforts :)
Warmest wishes
Lisa
