The national flag of Greece, popularly referred to as the "blue and white" (Greek: Γαλανόλευκη, Galanefki) or the "sky blue and white" (Κυανόλευκη, Kyanefki), is officially recognised by Greece as one of its national symbols and has nine equal horizontal stripes of blue alternating with white. There is a blue canton in the upper hoist-side corner bearing a white cross; the cross symbolises Eastern Orthodox Christianity, the prevailing religion of Greece. The blazon of the flag is Azure, four bars Argent; on a canton of the field a Greek cross throughout of the second. The official flag ratio is 2:3.[1] The shade of blue used in the flag has varied throughout its history, from light blue to dark blue, the latter being increasingly used since the late 1960s. It was officially adopted by the First National Assembly at Epidaurus on 13 January 1822.rnrnThe nine stripes doesn't have any official meaning, the most popular theory says that they represent the syllables of the phrase Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος ("Freedom or Death"), the five blue stripes for the syllables Ελευθερία and the four white stripes ή Θάνατος.[2] The nine stripes is also said to represent the letters of the word "freedom" (Greek: ελευθερία).rnrnWhite and blue are symbolising the colours of the Greek sky and sea.[3]

It's a clear and sharp and nicely composed photo of the red and white boat flying the blue and white flag of Greece. There are several shades of blue in this photo: the sea, the sky and the hazy hillsides all have their own tones.

Lovely boat with the flag which adds a nice touch here. I can of course recognize the Greek flag but I was not aware that is has well defined number of stripes.

A magnificent composition with this fishing boat, which makes a good exaltation to the country's flag, many different objects inside the boat and well tied up, no less than three ropes, beautiful blue sea and mountains in the background.

This boat is surprisingly well equipped for fishing, considering it's size. Red pain looks good against the blue sea and sky. The flag catches attention for sure.

I quite like the Greek flag, both for its two colours and for the combination of the horizontal lines with the cross.
Here it is waving nicely in the wind above the small white-red boat.
On the horizon a view of the mountains and the port of Volos.
