Photographer's Note

At Monastiraki Square, one of the the busiest spots in the centre of Athens.
I had an appointment with a friend outside the metro station and went a bit earlier curious to see if I could find any themes and manage any decent captures in an environment very different to what I'm used to on Leros.
I found many themes but had little time and the light was fading fast too. I kept in my mind Abmdsudi's enthusiasm and advice regarding street photography. It was an exciting experience, I wish I had more opportunities to find myself in environments like this.

Oh, the stories between a man and a woman ... he is looking in one direction, she in another ... he is busy with work, she is ready for romance and a night on the town ...

Street photography is a lot of fun, each image is unique and will never be duplicated in the same way. These are moments grabbed from lives, that we can look at and see who these people are, and perhaps, who we ourselves our. The stories we read into them tell us a lot about ourselves and others.

Hello Ourania,
The problem with street-shots is that you can't direct people, so sometimes you get persons and elements that slightly disturb. On the other hand the spontaneity of unexpected encounters or people full of character often widely outweigh such drawbacks. In this picture we see people everywhere, facing all directions, but the glances referred to in the title cut through this maze of details like a razor. Although there is no eye-contact between the salesman and the woman on TV, the similarity between them is very amusing.

Ho Ourania,
The basket is empty and his eyes are riveted on the readings of the scale, which is showing 0. This is the beauty of street photography.
Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.
The gentleman is busy while the poster girl is day dreaming.
Overall the spectacle is a lesson in management of light, which is so crucial in photography, that a good number of photographers make errors.

oh,this is so enjoyable,the facial expressions on the faces are just delightful in a thoughtfully composed photograph.
Despite the less than perfect light you have exposed the image perfectly.
A street scene that has an enormous amount of charm and interest,the title is most appropriate.Bravo.

A very good daily life street picture, with these two persons, one of them is checking the balance and the other is looking another way, obviously not interesting in the ongoing activities. Still they seem to have a lot in common. A very pleasant picture.

Yes - meaningful glances. Interesting how some people who have commented here have focused on the gender differences - he is busy with work she is wanting romance etc... and there is certianly a tension between the two faces here that make this image work because they are the only two faces looking in the same direction. But he is not looking at his scales he appears to be looking up and past them maybe got his eye on another woman... so maybe that suggests there is no connection... after all she is an advertising fantasy and unobtainable and he is dealing with his reality - work and boredom.

I like this a lot. At first, I did not notice the ad on the right side of the image, but on closer inspection, it makes a fascinating contrast to the glance of the man on the right. Two glances, so alike but their meaning and intention so different. One a part of daily life, critical to make the world go round, the other there to entice consumers to buy something new, something more. Excellent capture, really cool

Hi Ourania
Applaud your brave attempt in candid spur of the moment street photography. What a glance of the 'woman' in opposite to the man, the detail on his face and eye - being essential in this context really makes this picture and grabbing all the attention in and the way he looks at the scale. At first glance focus is directed to both but then your eye will naturally hovers around the frame trying to settle in and it suddenly feels just a little intimidating. Technically, given the title, the work flow is somehow interrupted unfortunately by some clutters and distractions of strong colour taking away attention from the main focal eg; the bright orange actually does not contribute at all and too bright a background. Imho sincerely I feel that your title does not click with the picture and the best option would be in this instance is-change the title and notes especially given the title, which is an important additional factor which can be overlooked - thinking of decent titles is a skill in itself.

However I like the balance of these strong objects and the amazing attitude and your perfectly planned composition has not gone unnoticed, its very nice urban candid shot. A brilliant busy spot, contrasts the differences between the apparent 'woman' and the man. Perfectly timed, a split second might have lost the opportunity and your ability to observe people is excellent and this can be an very enjoyable upload that pulls the eye as both characters open up the possibilities of many many interpretations in viewers' mind. Anyhow you still have a very nice fun image here, good atmosphere and mood. A shot to be proud of and your effort is appreciated. Well done

Great spontaneous looks on the face of the man in the image.He seems to be checking up the weight rather seriously and wants to make no mistake.Lots of colors in the frame.I also like the image of the lady inside the frame who looks a bit like Sophia Loren in her younger days.Very well done.TFS.
