Lim駭as, Thasos, a photo from Kavala, Macedonia

Contre-jour shot of a fishing boat moored off Lim駭as, Thasos.

Not that many non-Greek tourists wash up on Thasos, or at least didn't back in the '80s. It had a quiet, laid-back vibe that I really liked. Lim駭as, the "capital" of the island was a simple, unpretentious little town: "gay tavernas on the waterfront" was the memorable description in the locally-produced guide, and appeared to be the utmost of their claims for the place. This photograph was made just out of Lim駭as in late afternoon. The near-monochrome result of shooting into the sun appeals to me.

Shot on "the tank" (Canon T90) - nearly new at the time - using Kodachrome. The film was scanned on a Nikon dedicated film scanner @ 4000 ppi, giving a 16-bit, 109 mg file

Hi Will,
The sun glinting on the water in the lower left creates a very calming atmosphere, combined of course with the boat bobbing on the gentle water. The rays of the sun are captured really nicely too, normally when I take a shot into the sun, the rays ruin it, but they look excellent in your scene. Nice gently rolling hills add to the sense of calm too.

Another stuuning and impressive image.
Cross light filter makes so fantatsic prensetation. The unity of deep blue is so artsstic indeed.

Great work. The effects of shooting into the light really make it for me - both the sun rays at the top of the image and the reflections in the water. I really like the near-monochrome feel too!

Love the repetition of the stars here. Well managed backlight with only negligible oe in the highlights. A tricky shot to get and done perfectly. Good sharpness and shadow detail. The boat makes a fine focal point and the bg mountains add depth to this simple, uncluttered composition. Tfs!

Even without the reflections it would be an strong image with its very fine composition, but now they are there and brings an extra dimension. I like that almost monochrome result also. Great work.
