Photographer's Note

It's Leonard Cohen's passing that brought me back to my Greek pictures and I can't seem to get away from them. First Hydra, then others. Here's one from Nafplio.

Nafplio (or Nafplion) is an old seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece. It was the capital of the First Hellenic Republic (1821-1834) and has a fascinating history.

With several great places to stay, some very good restaurants and a carfree city center to just wander around in, Nafplio makes a great base to explore the Argolis region of the Peleponnesos.

This picture shows the sun setting on the Bourdzi. This castle was built in the 14th century by the Venetians to defend their harbour.

Hello Benny,
Photos of sunsets sometimes become clich駸, but it's hard to resist colours like in this sky and the sun's reflections in the sea. Maybe it's the small castle that really does the trick for this photo. With a bottle of retsina at hand this sunset would be even more enjoyable "on location".

Hallo Benny,
Nafplion vond ik echt een heel aangenaam Grieks stadje om te vertoeven. Mogelijk dat mensen uit een echte grootstad er niet zo van houden. Maar ik heb er heel goede herinneringen aan.
De beklimming van de vele trappen naar de Palamidi-vesting en de uitzichten van boven waren een hoogtepunt.
Uiteraard herinner ik me het Bourzi-fort en de vele terrasjes in Nafplion met een uitzicht op dit fort.
Hier toon je het mooi als een donkere silhouet in zee met de de achtereenvolgende bergruggen op de achtergrond.
De zon gaat onder achter de hoogste bergkam maar krijgt een heel lange weerspiegeling op de golven in zee.
Ook de lucht met afwisselend wolken en oranje gloed is prachtig.

You could convince me to visit this place any time; with that amazing hilly backdrop, the castle adding the mystery and the sunset providing the romance, it's a perfect setting.

Mooie melancholische foto. Hoewel ik geen kenner ben van het werk van Leonard Cohen kan ik me voorstellen dat je met deze foto stil wil staan bij zijn heengaan.
De combinatie van de blauwe en rode kleuren is hier zeer passend.

Een prachtige zonsondergangfoto met prachtige warme kleuren die mooi contrasteren met de blauwe silhouetten van het berglandschap en de wolken. Het donkerdere eilandje steekt extra goed af tegen de achtergrond.
