Photographer's Note
The new Fishermen's Bastion was erected between 1895 and 1902 on the foundations of 18th century castle-walls to replace an old stronghold. The neo-Gothic construction dominates the Budapest skyline.
Schulek emphasised the hefty tower that juts out towards the Danube, and raised new towers on the northern and southern bastion sections. Between them he created a large row of ornamental stairways which today bears his name; the main stair is laid with marble. The craftsmanship of the column heads, harmonising with the water-spouts and face-work, succeed in creating homogenous and engaging images from close quarters and at a distance.
In the middle of the Bastion's courtyard stands a statue of King St Stephen (Szent Istv疣 kir疝y), and, at the foot of the Bastion, a statue of J疣os Hunyadi was a gift from Franz Joseph. Hunyadi was the general who defeated the Turkish troops at N疣dorfeh駻v疵 (Belgrade), and the father of the renaissance King Matthias (M疸y疽 kir疝y). A copy of the statue of St George in Cluj Napoca/Kolozsv疵 can also be seen at the foot of the bastion. The original Fishermen's Bastion was named after the fishermen's guild that in medieval times was ordered to protect the stronghold.
The Castle district
Several buildings in the Castle District are important in their own right, for example, Matthias Church; the office of the president of the republic in the S疣dor Palace, in front of which there is a change of guards each midday to the accompaniment of music; and, of course, the Royal Palace, home to national collections and museums.
The Castle District's town houses with their courtyards, ground floor wings, gateways with sediles, and cellars with dried-up wells all conjure up the atmosphere of the wealthy Buda of the long-gone Middle Ages. It is well worth taking a peek into most of them. Running the length of the District's western side, チrp疆 Tth Walk invites you to take a stroll with its quietness, its attractive landscaping, and its beautiful view over Buda. However, the scenery to the west cannot beat that of the eastern side, where the view over Pest and the Danube belonging to the World Heritage Site opens up from the Fishermen's Bastion and the Palace Square.

Hello George.
Excellent work in sepia tone, perhaps necessitated by a not-appreciable sky.
There is also a great depth, obtained by the separation of the plans.
Best regards.
Bobo.
