Photographer's Note
Since I took so many shots in the same underpass, I have thought of making here a kind of triptych of them, out of which this upload would be the middle one. Haunted by recurring time-lapsed emotions, I took to this dark place, with all its scars--it was the place in which, literally, light got in:
"You can add up the parts
but you won't have the sum
You can strike up the march,
there is no drum
Every heart, every heart
to love will come
but like a refugee.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in."
--from "Anthem" by Leonard Cohen

I went to an exhibition of drawings by the english artist LS Lowry this summer and his drawings were set against the work of an english photographer of the 60's whose name escapes me right now......the feel of their joint exhibition is the sense of your image - times gone never to be regained.......against the shadowy perambulations of a contemporary scenario - a wonderfully observed homage to the everyday creativity of photography.........stunning sasa.........a fantastic work of art.

Hi Sarolta,
Creative composition. Nice sepia effects which aged the the scene and also the 'ghost' effect is fantastic. Well done! tfs

I really like what you've done with this, its an interesting idea and one that i probably would have overlooked.
i like that the person has a cane and is looking back to the scene as though he/she were conjuring the past or perhaps thinking of times past...
our past is always with us, every moment we've lived built up to create the person we are at each new moment... this photo makes me think of the song 'breathe in the air' from pink floyd. lyrics like; "
Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be."
this photo makes me think that we are merely shadows of our former selves.... or visa-versa, and perhaps it would be more apt to say that the shadows of our former selves follow us around, always shaping who we are and who we want to be at each new moment.
regards,
steve

Hi Sasa,
I'm always wondering where you find these places. Probably they will just be around, it just takes you to see them... Were the exhibited shots already in a sepia tone, or did you make that of it? Just wondering about that one...
There is a girl in the foreground with something like a mitella on her arm - funny to see how it looks like she is holding a point-and-shoot in the other hand ;-).
Greetings,
Dennis

Hi Sasa
So perfectly spotted and executed. The mood and timeless qualities draw us in, and set our imaginations off to distance times and places. I see an ageing soul of the present, longing for a previous life. But hey, that's just me. THe composition and control of the light are perfect.

Another one. This time you decided to gave us an easier reading. The shadow profile of that man is even more amazing than the last. The case and the walking stick are precious here to elevate the atmosphere and the poetry of the shadow. It connects both realities in a very striking way. Well seen Sasa, well seen...

Nice one again Sarolta, a great followup image. The walking stick of the silhouette ties in well with the old image being presented. Always love seeing these more artsy kind of shots, probably the most creative style of photography in my mind.

Hi Sasa, this is similar to the previous one, but with one important difference: the contrast of sizes between the "lilliputs" (and their world) and the shadow of Gulliver...

Hi Sasa,
This is as good as the one you posted yesterday. No, I've changed my mind, it's even better. The silhouette with the walking stick is so becoming to the old photo of the city. It's a great mood shot, and very artistic. Congrats.

How on Earth do you find the time to view nearly 36000 hits? Well Sasa, reminds me of some of your earlier work of shadows you did and this is another fine example of how to capture it. You really have to look around the image to get the best out of it. Nice one.

A beautiful example of art combined with documentation, as good as any I have seen. The juxtaposition of this shadow with walking stick, pondering as it were the passage of time in this ancient city, is brilliant and elegant. Bravo! A favorite.

Hi Sasa:
Your works could be titled.
典he ART OF the MIRRORS I like
much as you play with which there
is to the other side of the mirror,
it is a form to see the world,
of real and the fictitious thing,
the fantasy of the dream,
the light as opposed to the dark,
and all this in an image that
makes think us and enjoy.
Congratulations and thanks.
Best regards.

Hi Sasa,
It's really beautiful, like a collage made not of objects, but of histories and times... the past and the present playing together in this strange and oniric shot! It's very creative and it suggest many readings to imagination! It's a great shot! Thanks!
Greetings,
Angel.

Dear Sasa,
This triptych of "City of light and shadows" reveals again your most artistic side, your elevated passion for art. The fusion of images here has reached the level of perfection, projecting a world in which reality and imaginary are strikingly juxtaposed. The gentleman seems to emerge from the light and walk towards his real world, that space fulfilled by the past... What a beauty! You brought us a wonderful gift from your home town dear Sasa
Take care,
Andre
