Photographer's Note
Sun Voyager is a sculpture in Reykjavik harbor, often assumed to be a representation of a Viking ship, but its Wikipedia article disputes this.
In any case, it is a lovely spot, right by the bay/ocean, with a view west towards the sunset. This shot was taken about 12:45 AM, I believe, when the sun was just dipping below the horizon for an hour or two.
I was by no means the only person here - there were probably about 20 people, many with cameras. Everyone was very good about staying out of the main area so that others could take pictures. I brought my tripod with me on this trip precisely for an opportunity like this, and I'm very glad I did.

Simple but effective composition. Good use of the silhouette to break up this sunset (at 12:45 a.m.?). Good placement of the sun. Very well done, tfs.

Hello Roger, the sun just sits on the horizon and gives you some lovely backlighting behind this distinctive sculpture.
The subtle colours of the sky are quite beautiful.

Hi Roger
I have seen this sculpture many times before, it's one I would love to see in person. This however is without a doubt the finest image of it I have seen. The semi silhouette , the sun peeping over the sculpture and the mirror like water all combine to make a very magical moment . Really beautiful photo .
Cheers

Hello Roger,
your picture is a work of art too, its quality is superb as you achieved wonderful definition both on the silhouettes and the colours. You also captured a fine and suggestive atmosphere, rendering the symbolism of the sculpture even more effective. There's an exquisite sense of clarity and even the shadows are clean. I'm not sure why, but the last part of Tennyson's Ulysses comes to my mind while looking at this scene. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hello Roger,
I would also say that it reperesents a Viking ship, bnut even if not, it is very nice sculpture and it looks great in this evening light. Excellent composition, nice colours. Very attractive picture.

Hi Roger
This is an excellent image, and it reminds me of a skeleton but I loved it at first sight, and you have made it stand out as you sit by it on a late evening watching the sunset colour shift and change. I love what I am seeing here; the sense of broad open space to explore yet closer enough which gives a sense of immediacy, of personal involvement making our eyes want to explore it; and well positioned with the obvious connection towards the distant shore and the dipping sun.
The metallic tones and surfaces of the sculpture are particularly well done and the soft warmthness, pastel colours in the background clinched the capture superbly. Not an easy one to expose for... And I'm so glad that you didn't push the colours. You have kept the composition factual turning an object into an experience and no frills. A nice piece - the essence of a work of art with its message & Your love of this sculpture is evident in your image. Great effort. Congrats and tfs
Best wishes

Ciao Roger
Wow this is such a beautiful photo and so superbly composed. The sea in the bg is delightful and is complemented so nicely by the reflections in the base of the sculpture, which is, even on its own, a compelling subject. Excellent work and thanks for sharing.
Warmest wishes

Hello Roger!
You were presented as featured member this morning, so I became curious about ypur portfolio - and it was rewarding. A fine exposure of an outstanding Icelandic artwork, and the light could not have been better.
The North at its very best!
