The Enchanted Mountain, a photo from Donegal, North

Photographer's Note

Mount Errigal has got to be one of the most striking mountains I've ever seen. It's not very tall--less than 2,500 feet. Even though it looks like a volcano, there's nothing volcanic about it. But something about it is just magical and haunting. Perhaps it's that it rises in some of the most enchanting countryside in all of Ireland: the region of Gweedore in Donegal. At its foot is the eerie ruined church of Dunlewy and the ominously named Poisoned Glen. And just north of it, on the road to Letterkenny, is some of the most barren and wild countryside I've ever passed through.

I was lucky to catch the tail end of this rainbow--the only one we saw in Ireland--at this overlook on the Clady River just outside Gweedore. What a beautiful spot.

I'm on a bit of an Ireland kick right now, so please bear with me. :)

Fantastic view of this mountain with a trace of the rainbow. Marvelous landscape. Superb composition , nice colours. I like this picture very much.

Wonderful to catch the rainbow against this beautiful mountain, such great timing. I know in this part of the world it rains so much that any element of colour is great, never mind that of a rainbow. Really fantastic moment to capture.

You're right , this little mountain looks very impressive and higher than its real size .

What, Clark,
is this really Ireland?

The mountain looks absolutely untypical for this lovely country, and some additional deception is added by its height. If taken from sea level (or at least not much above), 2500 ft = 800 m is very impressive. And with the summit covered by a rainbow, you were a lucky man.
