Photographer's Note

Catania is an Italian city on the east coast of Sicily facing the Ionian Sea, between Messina and Syracuse. It is the capital of the homonymous province, and is the second-largest city in Sicily and the tenth in Italy.
Catania is known for its seismic history, having been destroyed by a catastrophic earthquake in 1169, another in 1693, and several volcanic eruptions from the neighboring Mount Etna volcano, the most violent of which was in 1669.
Catania has had a long and eventful history, having been founded in the 8th century BC. In the 14th century and the Renaissance, Catania was one of Italy's most important and flourishing cultural, artistic, and political centers, having witnessed the opening in 1434 of the first university in Sicily. Today, Catania is one of the main economic, touristic, and educational centers in the island, being an important hub of industry, thus gaining the nickname, "European Silicon Valley".

Hi Thanasis,
What an unsusual monument, I can safely say this is the first time I have ever seen such a thing, particularly built on the back of a stone elephant! Composition is perfect as it is centred well between the two buildings, which themselves provide an interesting architectural backdrop, and the addition of the square with the people adds a nice lively element too.

Βλέπω ότι ξεσκονίζεις τα παλιά σου φωτογραφικά άλμπουμ και ανανεώνεις τις σκέψεις σου για μελλοντικές αποδράσεις. Ελπίζω να έλυσες το πρόβλημα που είχες με την απεικόνιση των χωρών στο ΤΕ.
Άντε και καλό περίπατο αύριο στην Κακαβιώτισσα, θα ήθελα να ήμουν και εγώ μαζί.

Θανάση γεια σου,
όμορφη παρουσίαση του μνημείου που ευρίσκεται σε μια από τις πλατείες της Κατάνια,με τον ελέφαντα να φέρει στην πλάτη του αυτή την γρανιτένια στήλη και από επάνω να ευρίσκεται ο σταυρός.
Η διαχείρηση του φωτός και των χρώματων είναι πολύ καλή με αποτέλεσμα να αναδυκνύουν το όλο σκηνικό.

Πολύ ταξιδεμένος Θανάση κάθε φωτογραφία σου και ένα υπέροχο μέρος. Εντυπωσιακή πλατεία με υπεροχές αρχιτεκτονικές λεπτομέρειες και μια πολύ χαλαρή ατμόσφαιρά.

This ancient city is very beautiful, I like all these old architectures, especially the fountain that decorated by artistic stastues, good pov to frame it all, distinct photo under the shade, good shoot.

Never seen this statue with elephant above the stone block
This is really a hair sharp picture, we the see most small details.
Nice perspective good presentation too.

Γειά σου Θάνο, ομορφη φωτογραφία απο μια περίφημη και ιστορική πλατεία στην Σικελία και δεί στην Κατάνια!
Η χαρακτηριστική αρχιτεκτονική τών ιστορικών κτιρίων είναι πολύ καλά αποτυπωμένη και είναι πολύ αξιόλογο πού επέζησαν τών σεισμών.
