A house at the foot of Monte Faloria with a majestic backdrop of the Pomagagnon to the north. Taken during a small look around walk in and outside of town on my first day in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Located in the center Ampezzo Valley, Cortina is surrounded by the mountains of the Dolomites. Among the surrounding mountains are Tofane to the west, Pomagagnon to the north, Cristallo to the northeast, Faloria and Sorapiss to the east, and Becco di Mezzod�, Croda da Lago and Cinque Torri to the south. This was my second visit to the Dolomites. Won't likely be the last one, as like the previous visit, I did not fulfill the many hiking trails I wanted to do in my list. I also had at this time the bad luck of arriving this place at the wrong time. Mountain bus & cable car services I could use to get to my trail heads or starting points had already ceased operation just a few days before my arrival. Cortina d'Ampezzo has a population of 6000 plus people, but in the high tourist season the number of people may reach up to 40,000. With the Covid-19 still running around tourist arrival would be much dampened.
