La Pilarella, a photo from Grosseto, Tuscany

La "pilarella" era nota fin dal medioevo ai navigatori della zona che all'occorrenza vi si rifornivano d'acqua.
L'acqua che sgorgava dal poggio sovrastante, finiva direttamente in mare ma presto venne costruita una pila per raccoglierla; questa divenne il centro della vita dei santostefanesi che pi� volte al giorno si recavano a dissetarsi, lavare i panni ed attingere l'acqua per tutti gli usi. Nei secoli, intere generazioni hanno usato l'acqua della "pilarella" ed in molte famiglie di Porto S.Stefano si � tramandato il ricordo di quei tempi. Gli abitanti delle case appollaiate tra la terra e il mare intorno alla pila e lungo la banchina del molo erano i "pilarellai", santostefanesi con un legame particolare con il mare, famiglie di pescatori arrivate a Porto S.Stefano proprio dal mare. La spedizione dei mille di Garibaldi sost� a Porto S.Stefano rifornendosi di carbone e fece scorta anche dell'acqua della pilarella.
Durante la seconda guerra mondiale molti palazzi del molo furono ridotti in macerie dai bombardamenti. Oggi si presenta cos�!

Since Middle Age sailors would come to the 'Pilarella' to supply their boats with the water that was coming from the above hill.
After the construction of a little pier, Pilarella became the hearth of the village as residents would use it for drinking, washing and any other use. In the centuries, all generations have used this water and many families have pass on its memory. In the houses constructed between the sea and the hill lived 'the Pilarellai' local people that use to live with fishing and had a special relationship with the sea. Garibaldi stopped here for coal and water supply.
During the II war most of the buildings were bombed out. This is how it looks nowadays!

Wow! Wonderful warm vs cold colour contrasts between the orange and yellow facades at left, & blue sky, with good sharpness. Nice skylight reflections in the water. Bellissimo!

Wonderfully Done!! I love the way the light circulates around this photo. The colors are awesome. I believe Chris said it had warm and cold colors, and he is right. Just Awesome!!

bellissima immagine piena di luce e di colori, veramente bella la prospettiva, hai scelto un ottimo punto per scattare...gran bel risultato...l'unica cosa e non te la prendere...� solo una dritta...quando esageri con il blu pu� succedere che il colore si impasti un p�, come in questo caso, allora forse...dico forse...avresti potuto risolvere facendo un denoise solo sul cielo per non perdere i dettagli...sono comunque sottigliezze di un maniaco come me...bellissimi anche i riflessi dei palazzi nel mare....spero di fare qualche scatto ancora con te in questo bellissimo posto che rimarra sempre nel mio cuore...

gran bella foto, ottimo il riflesso e buonissima la composizione, la linea del mare a dividere la foto a met� e i palazzi che coprono 2/3 dell'immagine ed 1/3 mare/cielo.
Sono sempre stato troppo di fretta per ammirare bene questo bellissmo posto, dovr� rifarmi.

A fascinating note you have written here and you have given us a beautiful photograph with which to illustrate it. How wonderfully these buildings have been restored from the damage they sustained during World War II!

Beautifully vibrant colours with wonderful deep blues in sea and sky. The composition is excellent and I love the reflections of the lovely buildings in the calm sea. Perfect exposure and exquisite detail and sharpness.

I like the way the colors are shown in this image.The orange and yellow are very striking and bold followed by soft colors. Beautiful architecture with good lighting. Lovely cafes under canopies along the water for relaxation. Well composed image with sharpness.

Hello Giuiliana,

A marvellous composition prominent with exquisite depth and lovely vivid colors. I liked the effect of direct light on the facade of the beautiful houses, making them even bolder and dominant; and of course the lovely reflections on the deep blue sea. The water is delightfully blue & the pastel hues on the houses create a fine contrast with this blue. The distorted reflections of the houses also add to the beauty. Very nice indeed!

E' da un p� che ti osservo, adesso eccomi qui.
Bella immagine con un'ottima prospettiva che d� una buona profondit�.
Anche i riflessi sono ben catturati e arricchiscono il senso compositivo.
Ottima la luce del momento che esalta la resa cromatica.
Ottimo anche lo sharp che permette di vedere ben definito anche il pi� piccolo dettaglio.
