Segnali di fumo for Bayno, a photo from Grosseto, Tuscany

Dedico questa foto a Bayno (Valter) per rimediare al mio 'tradimento' su TE in questo periodo.. :-)
Stiamo organizzando un evento storico con le torri dell'Argentario lanciando dei segnali di fumo da una torre all'altra come nei tempi antichi.
Questo dettaglio � la torre delle Cannelle.
E' una torre Senese a base esagonale (e questo la rende unica nel suo genere) che si trova sulla spiaggia da cui prende il nome.
E' sempre stata molto ambita fra i pirati che navigavano quella zona non solo per la sua estrema vicinanza al mare ma anche perch� nei pressi c'era una sorgente di acqua potabile, utile per il rifornimento delle navi.
La torre aveva muri di contenimento ed era a 2 piani usati come magazzino e per far riposare i soldati.
Oggi appartiene ad una propriet� privata.
Qui stiamo facendo i segnali alla torre comunicante ad Ovest, la torre Ciana.

TORRE DELLE CANNELLE

Between all towers that are surrounding Monte Argentario we can say that Torre delle Cannelle is quite unique in its architecture because of its hexagonal layout.
It is located near the sea on the beach which has the same name.
It is a tower that pirates have always striven for not only for its closeness to the sea but also because there was a spring-water near by so they needed for their ships supplies.
It used to have surrounding walls and the inner space was divided in two rooms used for storage and for the town garrison.
Nowadays belongs to a private property.

Festa delle torri event in Monte Argentario 9/10 Giugno 2012

Monte Argentario is a small paradise well known for its beauty
and for its privileged location over the sea with a unique landscape.

This suggestive coast is adorned with extra beauty, the sighting and signalling Spanish Towers.
They are built all around Monte Argentario and in past history they had a role of vital importance because from their locations they could defend and protect all the promontory area from the frequent incursions of Turkish and Saracen pirates.

The first defensive constructions were built in the 15th century when Monte Argentario was subjected to Siena Republic.

However the magnificent Towers complex from Porto Santo Stefano to Porto Ercole was constructed by the Spanish during the Tuscan State of Presidi from 1557 to 1801along with Orbetello, Talamone and Porto Longone in Elba island.

Thanks to these ancient Towers, Monte Argentario has nowadays a valuable historical and cultural heritage that sits in an extraordinary landscape. Even if during the years some of the Towers have not been looked after and enhanced, still we are proud of them.

Festa delle Torri is here to show to our dwellers and tourists such beauty.
To us these Towers are our ancient jewels that are majestically standing overlooking the sea even if they have have lost their military meaning.

Our trip round of the promontory between towers starts from here, from the Fortezza Spagnola, at the sunset a smoke signal...

Here we are trying the smoke signal to communicate at West with Torre Ciana

ottima qualit� e colori piacevoli, mi piace anche il contrasto...bellissima la fumata, spero di esserci alla mostra...poi ti spiego...per il momento aspetto un'altra foto magari con un inquadratura pi� larga per apprezzare al meglio questa bellissima torre che con la tua bella nota hai descritto...

hello Giuliana,
I like the minimalism of this image.Blue red againt the blue sky makes a great thumnail.Once the image is made large, the viewer can appreciate the textures of the building.

Ciao Giuliana,ho provato con il traduttore di google a capire cosa avevate scritto col fumo ma mi dice "grammatica non corretta".Scherzi a parte e' una bella idea e soprattutto una bella foto,meno male che hai messo anche il WS cosi' abbiamo compreso meglio il tutto..ma quelli dell'altra torre hanno risposto? Sono proprio belli questi tagli estremi, molto accentuati in modo da avere una forte connotazione grafica. Di grande effetto la fumata rossa. Bella composizione, bravissima.

So is Valter to be the new Pope? That was my first thought when I saw the smoke from this ancient building and read the beginning of your note!

A very striking composition with fabulous contrasts between the stonework of the ancient tower and the deep blue sky with its red smoke. Perfect exposure, stunning details and sharpness and wonderful vibrant colours.

I was curious to know the purpose of the smoke.
Whatever, this is a minimalistic but strongly composed shot, following the rule of thirds and with excellent sharp, textural details.

Bellissimo colpo, piena di colori e movimento. Sembra quasi astratto. Mi piacciono molto la tessitura dell馘ifice e come contrasta con il cielo cobalto. Bellissima foto, complimenti.

So this is indeed smoke...like they used to do in earlier day? Like the way you composed with only a third of the picture covered by the tower allowing the smoke to 'flow' through the balance 2/3. Why are they doing the stuff now...for show?
