Pavement Caf�, a photo from Palermo, Sicily

Photographer's Note

A view overlooking a pavement caf� in Via Maqueda, Palermo, close to Piazza Bellini. Apart from the people relaxing with their drinks, I was struck by the large number of scooters parked close by. Scooters are ubiquitous in Palermo, and indeed all over Italy. They are a handy mode of transport in the busy narrow streets of the cities, if a little dangerous at times.

Yes, I saw many scooters everywhere in italy. I like their view, it seems so Italian to me. Nicce photo taken from a higher POV.

this one is all about the POV.
If you had taken it from street level it just wouldn't have the same impact.
its as if you're a cop on a stake-out :)

love seeing the old historic buildings, the balconies, and the street side cafe.

Hello Stephen,

I really like this very secretive but expansive view of the pavement caf�. I presume you took this from your hotel room. We can see so much, the caf�, the customers, the street, the surrounding houses with their balconies. It is a perfect spot for people watching. Claude (clodo) would love this for his own style of 'people' photography.
You have angled the shot nicely, giving a strong f/g triangle, with a good dof and perfectly animated.

Hi Stephen.
An exptreamly Italian scene; a slight traffic jam to the right, a pack of Vespas to the left, an old building with green shutters, a caf� and tables under the big umbrallas. As Craig I believe the POV from above is important and your composition works so well. The light / shaddow thing has been dealt with well.

Bonjour Stephen,

L'effet que peut faire sur une petite place que d'y installer une toile et des pots de fleurs.Aussit, les gens s'installent au table et le parking se remplit. Quel beau point de vue.

Hello Stephen,
a well composed scene that shows us architecture and daily life, an interesting glimpse of the casual aspect of the city. I like how the pedestrian in the foreground leads us towards the main interest, details are excellent, light and colours well balanced, the view in the shady area is clear and smooth. It's striking to see the people at the cafe' sandwiched between cars and scooters. Congratulations and thank you!

ti posso garantire che questi scooters sono pochi, nella classifica generale, Palermo, non rientra neanche tra i primi 10.
Io abito a Livorno ed � la secondo citt� in Italia con pi� scooters. Provare per credere!!!
In ogni caso la foto � interessante e rappresenta molto bene uno degli aspetti tipici del mio paese.

Hello Stephen, your high point of view enables us to view the cafe and its customers, so that they are totally unaware of you, thereby giving a natural atmosphere to the picture.
Sometimes the inclusion of vehicles would be a hindrance to the overall composition, but here it shows it as it really is.
Lots of details to enjoy.
