278- Piazza Vittorio-Emanuele, a photo from Pisa, Tuscany

Photographer's Note

I was lucky to visit Italy in 2018 and 2019 (Rome-Florence-Lucca-Pisa-Milan), and only towards the end of our second journey did I realise I was discovering statues of Vittorio Emmanuele II in practically every city !
In Pisa, our apartment happened to be near Piazza Vittorio Emmanuele. The piazza results from an urban reorganization at the end of the 19th century. It is very close to the train station.

Vittorio Emmanuele II (1820-1849-1861-1878) is called 撤adre della Patria�, as he is considered to be the Father of The Unified Kingdom of Italy (1861), with the help of Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882), Count Cavour (1810-1861) from Turin in the kingdom of Sardinia and Giuseppe Mazzini(1805-1872) from Genoa.

Before that it had been a series of different kingdoms and states which changed borders over the years and decades :
Kingdom of Venetia
Kingdom of Sardinia which soon included a great part of the North
Kingdom of the 2 Sicilies
The Papal States�.

Before he became the King of the unified Italy in 1861, Vittorio Emmanuele was at the head of the Kingdom of Sardinia from 1849, with Cavour as prime minister.
I shall spare you the complicated fights they had to go through before the Italian Unification was finally attained in 1861.
(Perhaps our Italian friends, having learnt Italian History at school might give us a simple summary of a very complicated revolution :-)

This is a nice panoramic view from a less often seen place in Pisa. I like the colours of the building and they are well captured in this nicely exposed photo. You have collected a number of interesting buildings and monuments dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele in the WS.

I don't recall this part of Pisa as I made a beeline for the tower. Love the curve and the symmetry here between the 2 elevated corners. The statue on pedestal and the lamppost enhance the depth and layering. Fantastic warm cold color contrasts and sharpness. Tfs!

I have learned something today, for I hadn't realised the importance of Vittorio Emmanuele eIther, though I have several photographs similar to yours, from Rome. The photographs from the different cities are all so very different in the way they portray this important man.

You have captured the frontage of the building well, and shown how it has a gentle curve which incorporates the garden area and the statue. The details show that some of the arched windows appear to have orange eyebrows!

very interesting history indeed.
I suppose we all heard about the Roman empire so it appears at first a bit shocking to realize how much the former empire was fragmented so that even the peninsula with Rome was divided into small kingdoms.
Lovely presentation here with the symmetrical building and the statue off the centre.
