Photographer's Note

Rocca S. Angelo - Assisi (PG)
Rocca Sant'Angelo, also called the Rocchicciola, is a peak castle in the center of the hilly system that acts as a bank to the Umbra Valley on the north side, in the stretch that rises from the massif of Mount Subasio up to the entrance into the valley of the Chiascio river .
The route of the river marked the border between the rival cities of Assisi and Perugia and to defend its own countryside, in the Middle Ages each city fortified the peaks of the hills on the opposite watersheds with castles.
The Assisi side sees the succession of the castles of Beviglie, Tordibetto, Palazzo, Sterpeto, Rocca Sant但ngelo and San Gregorio; the Perugia side the castles of Castel d但rno, Ripa, Sant脱gidio, Collestrada.
