Sleeping Woman
Many of her call her "Sleeping Beauty". In reality, this large sculpture placed next to the large fountain with Pluto and the Dolphin, which shows us a naked and lying woman should represent Armida, a character of the Jerusalem Liberated. She was a wicked sorceress who with her arts tried to put the crusader army of Godfrey of Bouillon in difficulty but, after having transformed some soldiers into animals, she falls in love with Rinaldo. He is held back by spells in her palace until he manages to free himself so Armida, feeling abandoned by her beloved, falls to the ground unconscious.

Hello Silvio,
This is a fine sculpture, less grotesque than several others you have shown. It actually looks quite modern, so I would not have been surprised to find it in a museum of 20th century art. You were lucky to find it in a place where the light was quite good.

Hello Silvio, an interesting sculpture, and as Gert has commented, it does look quite modern in style.
Your notes are very informative.
The shade from the trees has allowed just enough light to percolate through to the sculpture.

The artist certainly had a lot of creative ideas. I find it quite interesting that he or she used such a heavy material for scenes like this. The woman's body seems more appropriate to be done in marble which allows fine details. But it is what makes this exhibition quite unique as well.
