Photographer's Note
Shot late in the evening just as the lowering sun was still on the village and lightly in the valley.
Tech: scanned from original 6x6 tranny, converted to B&W in channels (R34G33B33),adjusted curve slightly (I think they tinkered with the histogram when scanning) cropped and sharpened

Another perfect one !
The game of light and shadow over the trees is wonderful.
Great composition, as usual, Richard ;-)

Very good shot.
The evening sun seems to make the village glow against the darker valley. Nice composition with lots of 'empty' space highlighting the isolation of the village.

Subject well lighted and positioned, interesting sky; beautiful view.

Dear Richard, I like best the contrast. It is amazing how the village stands out. Composition is great with the horizon a little below the 50/50 line, so you are within the rule of thirds. Great work. Yours, Jan

Fantastic lighting! A beautiful scene, that great sky and your high vantage point gave you wonderfully patchy lighting.
What a great little town!

Wow Richard, this is beautiful!!
It's very strange you use a Velvia and convert it in B&W, but the result is great.
I love the white stones of the houses in contrast with the dark woods...all is perfect as always, it must go in my favourites!

I had already loved your previous photograph of Calcata, that can be seen here:

As usual, you manage particularly well the light, and the range of grey tones is superb.

Richard, absolutely breathtaking. I liek both the houses on what looks like a mesa, and the slightly sun-lit batch of mountain/trees towards the middle left. Clouds/sky rounds out this pix perfectly for sq format. Sharp as tack. Everything looks sharp. Was the wind still. @ 1/4 sec it must have been. I usually don't shoot at f22 when the landscape is so far off. What brought you to select that f-stop?

Very nice landscape and composition Richard. The clouds are greatly well rendered, the DOF is excellent so we have a good overview of this nice panoramic view.
Well done.

super shot, there is so much detail here and the lighting is perfect. It looks a very old village, and its isolation in this shot gives it a sense of importance that this place probably would have had many years ago. Great work well done.

I like the composition - and a nice move having a sunset in B&W - it really brings out the shape of the clouds :)

Gorgeous Richard! I said to a friend today as we crossed San Francisco Bay on another bright sunny day with clear air that the only thing that kept the day from being perfect for photography was the fact there were no clouds in the sky to add drama to the scene. And here you are, once again giving us a dramatic sky above a dramatic landscape. Who could ask for more!
Remarkable fineness of details that bespeaks your excellent equipment and fine image handling. I would love to see a much larger version of this image. 800 pixels simply don't do justice to it, but I'm glad you offer us a peek nonetheless. It is very fine work.

A sunset in B/W....
Difficult, but if you make one, we are assured, that it's a nice one and well, indeed, what a mood, what a great light on Calcata in a fine composition.
Great work, Richard !

This is excellent, Richard!
The villiage glows in the light. Looks like scene from a movie almost. The strange village, the beautiful, wild surroundings and the dramatic sky.
Another magical, professional B&W shot from you, impressive as always!

The composition here is classic, and this classic approach works very effectively to give a sense for the beauty and uniqueness of this place. Of course, I'm always impressed with your tones. I know you shoot in b/w, but you might want to get a helper to see what this would be like in color. Most of my color shots were processed with my wife or daughter looking on and telling me what colors are "weird."

Depth absorbs me for flying, towards the sky for seeing the far, very far, between the clouds, above the lands, and sometimes standing above the rocks for thinking to which way I must be fly again,...
Great POV,Beautiful,superb shot,Richard,Very well done.
I like it a lot.
