The Three Brothers, a photo from Rigas, Central

Photographer's Note

The Three Brothers is a building complex consisting of three houses, situated in Riga, Latvia. The houses together form the oldest complex of dwelling houses in Riga. Each house represents various periods of development of dwelling house construction.

The building in 17 Maza Pils Street is the oldest, dating from the late 15th century. The exterior of the building is characterised by crow-stepped gables, Gothic decorations and a few early Renaissance details. Originally the building consisted internally of one large room and an attic in use as a storage. The house was restored in 1955�57 by architect P. Saulitis.

The neighbouring house, 19 Maza Pils Street, has an exterior dating from 1646, with a stone portal added in 1746. The style of the building shows influences from Dutch Mannerism.

The last house of the three, located in 21 Maza Pils Street, is a narrow Baroque building which gained its present look probably during the late 17th century.

The Three Brothers complex today houses the State Inspection for Heritage Protection and the Latvian Museum of Architecture - from Wiki.

Hello Piotr, three completely different styles and all three are beautiful.
I like the way that the sunlight has fallen across some part of each, highlighting some particular detail.

Hello Piotr,
When I was in Riga, I noted that taking picture of the Three Brothers isn't easy because of the light. The low sidelight here is very appealing and adds a nice play of light and shadows to the beautiful fa軋des. Well done.

tak to jest jesli sie odwiedzilo kilka krajow w krotkim czasie: mozna skakac pomiedzy jednym a drugim...
Bardzo ladny widok z Rygi.
Swiatlo nielatwe ale wynik jak najbardziej robi wrazenie.
Gorne czesci domow jeszcze dotykaja cieple promienie slonca podczas gdy reszta co prawda spowita cieniem ale jednak nie zatracila detali.

A famous POV that allows us to see the facades of the three sisters, something very difficult to capture, I did not find any point from where it could be so formidably captured.

I liked these three fa軋des, they have basicaly the same shape but details are very different and each one has its own character. very nice sample of architecture.
