This picture is great, every lines directing to that strange hill (is it salt?), sky color is very nice, but the title "***" doesn't match it. A note is essencial to this shot, Janis.

The white part looks like snow and this would be at the shoreline of the Baltic sea near Riga, the capital of Latvia. The Baltic is sadly very polluted, so I've heard. I recall translucent pastel coloured segmented circles, like a round slice of an orange: delicate jelly fish. These were present during the summer months and one could cup the hands just underneath the surface of the water under the floating gem, gently lifting it to the surface. When in the water they seemed soft, delicate and reflecting the sun in lemon, lime and orange colours, however, when lifted above the water, they stung the hands, a signal to be left back into the Baltic blue. This area looks quite pure and clean. The colours and shadows are lovely; I suppose the title means snowflakes? You can use the babelfish or another translation program to decipher what we are saying and to translate your notes into English from Latvian.

Very nice light, shadows and shapes. Intresting pic! I like it. Looks like salt and sand...

Might be salt, might be snow, but what ever it is, it makes a lovely image. I like to believe that it is ice or snow, it would be great on a sand beach, almost like a sunday. The sky is also very dynamic with the clouds making like an arrow pointing to the infinity. I find this shot most attractive.

Crystals of snow, it is the title replaced by the symbol "*",It's not disturb me, but a short comment would have been welcome. The composition is very good, the image leans slightly left. It's possible to correct it if you allow us.

Qu'importe ce que c'est, l'important c'est la beaut de la photo et celle-ci est magnifique ! Beau travail Janis !

This is a very nice photo Janis. I love the way the snow covered sands seem to mock the cloudy sky. Like the others, some notes would be really nice, but it doesn't affect the quality of the photograph.

Belle image, bon sujet.
Toutefois, l'horizon penche l馮鑽ement vers la droite, il y a peut-黎re un peu trop de ciel et il aurait fallu cadrer un peu plus large afin d'exploiter davantage les formes sinueuses qui tendent vers la droite.

I just love the picture and I donエt bother to much about notes, at least not when I can understand the picture. And I think your title is excellent, snowflakes, what more to say? But then I live in the same climate as you do, just across that sea. Your picture has fine color and contrast but with some sharpening in your editor it will be even better.

Yes, a small note would be nice... but what a great picture. You sure used a very wide angle for this one. Wonderful contrast in the sky and the dunes work almost like reflections from the clouds. Very nice...

Nice picture. I like the snow, the mud, the colors, the focus. So I give you a point for the image.
No note, no motivations. No camera information. No settings, Nothing. So no point for the Note.

A real TrekEarth moment even without photographer's notes. It is so inviting ... to trek through the fresh snow or salt or whatever it is and make your mark (and ruin the picture?). At anyrate, even though I always advocate adding notes, this could be an exception.

I knew it myself but with a little of searching, one will realise that Latvia has one coast on the Baltic sea. By reading the location I can see this is a beach close to Riga the capital of Latvia. So this is how the beaches look over there? mmm...interesting.
Did I need a note to realise that? Hell no!!
Am I enjoying this great picture? God yes!
Am I giving 2 points? you bet!!!!
Once again if strongly recommended note are not mandatory on the site. Read the guidelines!

Beautiful picture! I like the composition especially the formation of the clouds. Very well-seen.

The dark blue of the sky above and the Baltic in the background help convey the cold mood left behind by these drifts of snow which the wind has crafted into works of art.
With the round opening as an eye, I see a white mask lying on that beach.Others might see things differently...that is the joy of TE...to see what others have captured and interpret in our own personal way.

Nice pic, but what is it ? Snow ? I cannot believe it is salt ?....
No notes, no title.
I am convinced we all would take more pleasure with some explanations, Janis.
PS / I also correct my smiley as it is a good pic, but I still appreciate notes.

This is a remarkable photo with wonderful colors, the snow, sand and blue sky, but I really miss a note of some kind. Great job nonetheless.

It seems to be the smilies are for the photo, then there is the opportunity to separately rate the notes as useful.
Doesn't that cover it? If find this educational purely in a pictorial sense, the fact that we know it is in Latvia is at least partly informative. The climate there, and the conditions in the photo suggest simply to me this is snow on a wind blown beach. It looks nice and the only technical flaw is the significant tilt on the horizon. Can be resolved so Great from me.

smiltis un sniegs kopa !!
the sand and the snow together looks great!
it is quite common in autumns when the fresh snow falls down on dunes when the similar pictures can be taken. however you have to get lucky with the sun then:)

Beautiful colours. The scale is deceiving, at first look it could be a mountain or a small sand mound. Great capturing.

Janis, this is by all means, a great picture. No note attached? So what? It's just like with paintings. To some people a painting means nothing until a 'critique' writes an elaborate 'interpretation'. Nonsense. It so happens that pictures ana paintings belong to visual, not textual arts. Besides, isn't a puzzle fun? Cheers. Tom

Absolutly fantastic shot joining sand and snow or salt, it just doesn't matter.
The colors and high contrast in the composition are superb, and the white of the ground and the sky makes a perfect mirror.
Great work!

beautiful and unusual scene. nice choice of lens to frame the snow mound of the foreground with a sky that dramatically drains away toward a point on the horizon. add a note to tell us more about this wonderful place you discovered!
