Big silver fox, a photo from Siauliu, North

Photographer's Note

A huge silver fox sculpture on the Talk啾 lake shoreline in 格auliai, which is pronounced in English similarly to 'showlay'. The town is more famous for the nearby Hill of Crosses to the north, which I will upload later. The padlocks in the fox's mouth are symbolic of the love for country which the statue represents and are similar to love locks common throughout Europe and China. The structure is 25 metres long and 6.5 metres high and was built in 2009. There is a time capsule in the fox's heart. 格auliai is the 4th largest city in Lithuania, with 134,000 people.

Hello Chris,
A fine capture of this rather bizarre monumental sculpture, which to my eyes looks more like a cat than a fox. Irrespective, it is certainly impressive. I like the point of view and the way it fills the frame. The image is agreeably illuminated and has good colours and sharpness.

Hello Chris,
I only went to 格auliai to see the Hill of Crosses, which was a strange and captivating place, so I missed this sculpture. It's not a bad piece of art, quite amusing, but I think in the long run the crosses were more interesting. But I like your POV and the fine evening light.

I tried to figure out the size of this big silver fox, which has an imposing appearence on the waterfront promenade - but could not find an element that would give scale to this statue.
Anyway, a nice metal work of art, scary one eye shown...

An excellent point of view Chris; quite an intimidating fox when seen from this angle!
The sunlight shows all the textures and patterns of the beast.
I probably would not have recognised the padlocks if you had not mentioned them.A pity to spoil the sculpture.
Very good depth of field.

I can honestly say that i've never ever seen this subject before, and perhaps never will again.

Hello Chris,

It is a most unusual sculpture!
You have composed it well, on a near diagonal across the frame.
You chose a good time for your shot, the low sun making long shadows across the scene and really highlighting the raised textures on the fox's surfaces.

Well well well. This is an interesting sculpture. Unconventional but I like it a lot. Well done with the angle and framing. The BG is well rendered too. Beautiful colours and sharpness.

The extent of the lake gives depth to the composition. The shooting allows you to see the details of the sculpture of the fox. so interesting my friend.

The red fox lives in the forest around the lake and I guess that statue was built on its shores in tribute to the animal among others. Amazing artwork Chris, sharp illustration
