Place Guillaume II

I finally managed to escape The Netherlands this summer and the first stop was Luxembourg. This photo was taken last Thursday in the early evening. It shows the central square called Place Guillaume II. The square itself is quite empty as well as being renovated at the moment, but the Cath馘rale Notre-Dame with its steep spires just looked very beautiful in the warm evening light. Place Guillaume II, locally also known as Knuedler, is named after Grand Duke William II of Luxembourg, who was also King of The Netherlands.

Hi Lars,I saw your photos on facebook from Luxembourg but also from Metz and Strasbourg, you are doing a nice tour, especially in the museums that your father cares a lot about .. hehehe ... we open the series of your escape from Holland after Covid with this beautiful view of Luxembourg, it was not easy to manage the different levels of light but you did it very well! Hi Lars,

The presence of the persons is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings and of the church. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

The square does look very empty, and it seems like the weather was a bit cool, too. The two people in walking by are wearing jackets. Of course, I like the colorful art. :-) The light on the buildings is nice, too. Take care!

Very interesting image of this fascinating city with less people around and great buildings. Your well chosen angle gives an interesting view with the cracking twin steeples hook on a effective focal. Lovely colours with excellent control of exposure. Well done

You had just enough light to show the double towers and buildings before dusk.

Hej Lars,
Detta hade kunnat bli ett vanligt vykort, men avsp舐rningen med graffiti och det n舖tan tomma torget med bara tv� personer skapar en vardaglig st舂ning som vykort inte brukar ha. Det 舐 fint exponerat vid en tid p� dagen n舐 det inte fanns s� mycket ljus kvar.

Hallo Lars,
Een mooi laat avondlicht geeft de torens van de kathedraal en een deel van de huizen een zachte tint en deelt de foto in twee.
De muur- of paneelschilderingen bevinden zich in het donkerder deel van het plein en geven dit ook een zekere charme. Vermoedelijk zullen ze verdwijnen wanneer het plein helemaal opgeknapt is.

You've caught a gorgeous evening sunlight .... I don't know whether you waited for it or by chance.
You definitely making the best of it ..... with this beautiful 'clear and crispy' picture.
It has indeed a lot of spires to admire and wonder ... the beauty of this square - King of The Netherlands :-)
And very clever used of colourful 'graffiti art' to liven-up the square.

Well done for holidaying; maybe next week, I will do the same but not venturing from our country!
I do like how cities camouflage architectural renovations with attractive boards. It means that the work does not interfere with the appreciation of the most attractive buildings nearby.
You have captured the late sunlight, illuminating the buildings, very well.

Goedenavond Lars,

Ik durf nog niet naar steden gaan, maar u bent veel jonger en minder kwetsbaar, dus we genieten mee van uw beelden.
Vroeg in de ochtend, het leek mij nog niet druk.
We krijgen een mooi beeld, van Luxemburgstad, met de toren en aan deel van de oude gebouwen.
Ool speelt u mooi met licht en schaduwen
Samenstelling en presentatie zijn mooi. Bedankt.

Hello Lars, the sunlight was in the right place as it highlighted the different buildings so well, whilst leaving the less interesting foreground in shadow.
The lamp post echoes the two spires very nicely. The two people add life to the scene.

Hi Lars,
I suppose for you Luxembourg does not sound very much like a trip abroad, being so close to you, but for me it is very interesting and exotic destination. Although I know it from TE photos for example by Claude, who has left the site.
These sharp spires are quite characteristic. You have well used the evening light. The wam sunshine lit the most important elements of the scene while leaving the rest in a deep shadow.
It looks like a start of a very interesting reportage,

Dag Lars,
Eigenlijk was di teen van de straatbeelden die we relatief vaak hebben gezien tijdens onze trip. In elke stad kwamen we wel afgezette pleinen en straten tegen waar gewerkt werd aan de renovatie en modernisering van de stad.
Een mooi scherp contrast tussen licht en donker.
