Photographer's Note
前hrid - Welcome to the Bay of Bones
My main photo is not everything that defines the site and only a simple invitation to look further at the photos in the WS and to read what is in the note. I kept the note 喪elatively short.
The Bay of Bones museum that can be visited today is a partial reconstruction of a large prehistoric complex.
Archaeological investigations between 1997 and 2005 showed that a large number of excavated remains pointed to a massive settlement on Lake Ohrid.
The prehistoric settlement occupied 8.500 square meters and was supported by 10.000 wooden piles that were all anchored to the lake bed.
It concerns a settlement from the very end of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age. This means that the settlement was there between 1200 and 700 BC (so over 3.000 years ago).
Around that period Lake Ohrid was quite shallow allowing for a massive wooden structure to be erected above the water.
Why that name?
The name Bay of Bones is fairly accurate.
The excavations provided a large number of animal remains. Also fragmented but well preserved vessels.
The findings pointed out to a highly developed settlement.
A small prehistoric town that was neatly constructed above the water and connected to land by a number of small, but sturdy bridges.
Information from: https://www.discoveringmacedonia.com/2018/bay-of-bones-museum-ohrid/
The Bay of Bones is located on the eastern shore of Lake Ohrid, about halfway between Ohrid and Sveti Naum.
I have more pictures for next time.

Hi Paul,
Interesting idea to choose this photo as the main upload. It certainly raises our interest, especially knowing that you add some photos in the workshops. So it seems you arrived at the famous lake eventually. I think this is the only destination which I would be able to list in this country in addition to the capital city.
I am glad you decided to focus on this trip. A country which is so close and so little know here.
Excellent reportage,
M

Hi Paul, really interesting, and it was a good job to build a village in memory of this ancient settlement. The main photo is very attractive and particular and prompts the curiosity to look at the 4 WS, very beautiful and particular, especially the view from above with a part of the lake, top quality as always, we wait for the next ... Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello PAul, After Heraclea, the less-visited place in Northern Macedonia that I know too. I have checked, no photos from me. And I have so many! Maybe I look for something in my archive.I liked the place, it was nice and interesting.
This bull's head looks quite scary.
Best regards MAlgo

An unusual entry in your gallery, Paul, only reading the note made sense to it.
All WS photos show well the area where taken.
A fine photojob done.
Good afternoon,

Hello Paul,
I had to check my LP guide book to find out why I had never even heard of this place. It is mentioned briefly as a "soon to be opened museum", and because I was anxious to go straight from Ohrid to the Albanian border, it never occurred to me that anything of interest could be found here.
The main photo makes me think of somewhere in the Wild West, or maybe interior of Australia, while WS 2 and 4 remind me (a little bit) of the Kampong Ayer in Brunei.
Best regards,
Gert

Goedenavond Paul,
Prachtig foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John.

Hello Paul, this shot draws us in, what can it be about?
Your informative notes and the workshop pictures tell the tale.
The view of the settlement from a higher vantage point could be a main post.
This shot is so sharp, the variety of textures so clear.
Excellent.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Paul,
Moving backwards through the photographs, I came upon those posted by Malgo before I reached these. However, though I understood the meaning of "Bay of Bones', your photographs give a deeper insight into the site.
Your main photograph is very dramatic, with close details informing of the structure of the wall.
You show us a wide scene, explaining where the reconstructed village is situated, whilst the close-ups of the houses are sharp and well composed.
This is the sort of subject I love, ancient history!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul,
It's a very interesting prehistoric complex.
The name of this place sounded even more riveting ... Bay of Bones. This picture is perfect for the name.
This cow skull is fascinating ... I would like to have it.
The picture alone ... is like , 'The Wild West of Red Indians' something like in 'Witchcraft' worship.
The rest of the pictures give me the whole impression of this settlement ( over 3.000 years ago , Wow !!! )
I do like the WS4 too. The scenery is so beautiful and I can see the settlement floating on water.
This kind of place I would be definitely happy to visit. It'll be an educational holiday too :-)
Thanks for the WS photos ! You're spoiling us.

Hello Paul,
This is something different! It is unlike any of your other photos from Macedonia, and it's worth a look. The cow skull, and the hanging straw in the window, catch my attention. Interesting note, too.

paul
this image of the skull remind me the ones in the ranches of my state where people put them at entrance to prevent bad eye. I have two or three samples in my gallery.
nice the images of WS showing the structure. I presume they had lots of imagination to recreate something with so few elements.
take care

Hello Paul,
This is a great collection of photos from Ohrid. The main entry is a little misleading because one has the impression that Ohrid is dry. The rest of the photos (all excellent, I must add) prove the contrary.
Regards,
MT
PS. My grondmother and dad did not learn a new language, it was the same language written in different letters. From what I gather, it was not difficult. In fact, my other grandmother could read the new script although she had not taken that summer course.
