Photographer's Note
前hrid - The Bay of Bones - Epilog
Hereby my very last pictures of the 24 reconstructed prehistoric huts in the Bay of Bones in Lake Ohrid.
To be completely correct, the village has been given the name 'Plocha Michov Grad' while the bay is called the 'Bay of Bones' (Заливот на коските).
The stilt house village is located on the eastern shore of Lake Ohrid near the larger (but still small) village of Pe嗾ani (Пештани).
A small museum was built in 2008. Later 8 replicas of prehistoric houses were built on a platform above the lake.
Since the site had soon become one of the most visited places of the country, the government decided to expand the museum and in 2010, 16 more prehistoric huts were built.
In my main photo you see the wooden bridge that connected the platform to the mainland.
In the time of the prehistoric settlement the bridge was mobile.
With that mobile bridge, the prehistoric people could defend and protect themselves from the dangers that came from the mainland.

Despite the fact that it is a much visited site in North Macedonia, I was the only one to get off at the bus stop, during my visit the only one in the stilt house village and of course the only one again at the bus stop to return to Ohrid.
Onward travel by bus to Sveti Naum is also possible. But I did that on another day and returned then by boat.
In total I showed three times five pictures of this location.
Although there are crowds of tourists in Ohrid town, the Bay of Bones remained little shown on TE.
In 2018, Piotr showed a photo of it and recently Malgo found photos in her immeasurably extensive archive. That archive still has a lot of secrets to reveal

Hello Paul,
The main photo is well structured with the several diagonals, the beautiful colours of the water and the green hills behind. But WS #1 is also a very nice composition, even though the light was slightly less favourable. If you had been eager to add another country to your "photo location information" (but no longer your map), this could have represented Albania thanks to the distant dark hills. (But I have refrained from posting photos showing a hazy Brazzaville.)
WS 2 and 3 look like a blend of a Kampong Ayer and an African village.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Paul,
I have ceased judging which of your photographs was the best for the main post for I know they will all be of a similar, high quality.
I love the shots of the mud daubed houses!
This place should be bustling with tourists, as it was once bustling with the people who lived there. It is an amazing piece of carefully studied archaeology!
Thank you for sharing details of this amazing place!
Bev :-)

First noticed the magic by the color of the water in the FG, Paul.
Looking around there is a nice reflection of the stilts and in contrst the brown wooden houses and the forested slopes far beyond.
Well allocated the beautiful scenery over the picture space.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hallo Paul
I'm sure I uploaded a few shots too. I found it to be a fascinating diversion enroute to Naum Monastery. Good framing, colour and sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Paul,
Interesting series from the less popular destination. I mean the Lake Ohrid probably is more popular due to the monastery and the view of it with the lake but since plenty of people get there, they probably look for other attractions around and they discover this village... I wouldn't think somebody would travel a long distance to enjoy this village, regardless how charming it is.
Nice capture here with the green water in the foreground.
Very well done,
M

Bonsoir Paul,
J'appr馗ie les reflets sur l'eau. La prise de vue permet de voir les d騁ails du village qui a 騁 reconstruit. La lumi鑽e met en valeur la beaut des couleurs. Bonne soir馥.

Hi Paul,
Very interesting series of photos, including the workshops. These little huts look beautiful in all simplicity. And clear green water looks lovely. I had no idea such way of living could be found in Europe. Certainly that would be impossible in Finland!

Hello, Paul, My favourite of the photos is Workshop 1 when the houses form a compact small island. But the whole series is nice.
Thank you for the last sentences. What secrets I could reveal?

Hello Paul, you give us an excellent impression of the stilt house village; it is almost as if we are there with you.
Your main post is particularly well composed with the walkways creating a triangle that directs our eyes deeper into the scene.
Lovely colours and sharp quality.
Kind regards, Jean.
