Photographer's Note

An outdoor fountain in Skopje, North Macedonia, before the annual shutdown over winter months. It costs too much money to warm the water above freezing point so they are drained in early December and switched off until March / April the following year. Children love running through these jets of water trying to get through them without getting wet before they change to new settings. This one is in Macedonia Square adjacent to the Alexander the Great Fountain centrepiece. More info on the many fountains of Skopje here:

Chris, each water jet from the fountain is associated with a light fixed in the tiles. It embellishes that central square in Skopje surrounded by remarkable buildings visible in the bg. Fine colors, good image quality and excellent framing, regards.

Hello Chris,
Skopje is one of the most boring European capitals. Among those I have seen probably only Chisinau and Podgorica are worse. Since my visit to Skopje 10 years ago the city seems to have been filled with kitschy sculptures, so this fountain has to be among the nicer parts of the urban renewal. It is very nicely illuminated and there is some fine evening light still shining on the museum in the background. You chose a nice angle where we se the splashes of water on diagonals.

Wonderful pattern of the illuminated water-jets, Chris, it is also well in contrast to the modern building on right across the street and the far side imposing monumental edifice.

Beautiful presentation from this less known on TE European capital.
The fountains make a great foreground, especially since they are lit.
The square is very elegant with some modern and old monumental structures.

Hello Chris, nice vie of this fountain and the impressive building behind it. I have heard that Skopje is the city of monuments, I see two of them here. Last year I only went through Skopje, without stop :(. delightful light and colours at the end of the day.

Hi Chris!

The main item of your capture is the contrast between natural light on the background building and the LED lighted fountains offering nice lines to look through.
And - as it is always the case - the green one doe not works as expected.

Wonderful light and great timing for the fountains. The little jets of water make for a great foreground to the majestic, beautifully lit architecture in the background.
The only place where I have seen fountains turned on in winter was Yazd in Iran last January. It did get cold at night but probably stayed just above the freezing point.

Close and wide angle is just right for showing these little fountains. Modern light technology really make these look great, especially as daylight disappears. Interesting combination of classic and modern architecture in the background.

there's something about water fountains that grab the attention of us humans haha, think about it, they really really do. When we see one, we must walk towards it :) you chose an effective angle to show off the lines, perspectives and depth, good to have the city in the bg, even if we do see the T mobile sign. cheers

Good low view with the neo-classical buildings at the end. The only disturbing element is the commercial sign, but that's a sign of the times, I guess.

Hello Chris,
I remember this square and the buildings we see on your picture but when I visited Skopje these many small fountains weren't there.
I remember a very large one at the other side.
