Photographer's Note
Another surprising view form Soroca. It looks like a Buddhist stupa. It is the new construction, I haven'
t seen it on Google. What a pity I had no more time to explore the area and I haven't seen more inhabitants.
See also the broader view and other "palaces" in Workshops.
Cables are everywhere.
The name 堵ypsy is itself controversial, based on a now debunked theory that the Roma people hailed originally from Egypt. Recent evidence suggests that the group actually made their way to Europe from northern India.
On Gypsy Hill (Dealul Ţiganilor in Romanian) some of the mansions are unfinished. Others lack creature comforts like indoor plumbing and electricity. Many are large enough to house dozens of people but may remain empty for long stretches of time while their owners earn money elsewhere. Regardless of what these mansions are or are not, a stroll through the neighborhood is an eye-popping experience, juxtaposing real eastern European poverty with knock-offs of wealthier worlds and ideas of what it means to have status. Hello Malgo,
I like the broader view better, because it shows us a larger part of this street and gives me a better idea of what this area in the city looks like. But there are many wires which you managed to avoid here (a good vantage point or clone-stamping?). These photos are extremely interesting and the "palaces" in the collage don't look bad, but obviously everything is not made in the best taste. But it is very understandable that a group of people who have been at the bottom of all European societies for hundreds of years want to create something grand and impressive for themselves when given the chance. Even in Sweden it wasn't until the 1950's that the Roma were given the right to permanent housing and to register themselves in a municipality. Before that they were forced to travel constantly, never stopping for more than a few days in one place. I remember that from my childhood. Of course the children could not go to school.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello dear Malgo,
As always, a fascinating and most informative note - and here three wonderful photographs to examine - or, in fact, five images!
It is amazing how the initial appearance of these buildings implies wealth and grandeur - until we look at the masses of overhead cables, the piles of detritus and buildings either half built or else in the process of decay and suffering gross dereliction. What an experience to visit this place and meet these people!
Amazing!
Kindest Regards,
John.

Ciao Malgo. I do not express heavy judgments, but these people have built their fortunes by parasitizing on other peoples, and still live on theft, children forced to beg and prostitution. Even in Italy I have often been able to observe their way of life that annoys me a lot. Not to mention the architectural tastes, the horrendous houses and kitsch where everyone competes to flaunt a glitzy taste. Regarding my photo, from Oman I brought only a small memory, a couple of statuettes, just to have something, but I'm not a fan of the objects of the markets for tourists .. ehehe .. Have a nice day and thanks for this report from this incredible village!Luciano

Hello Malgo,
A good photo of this building with such a striking contrast between the boarded-up windows and the shiny, golden dome above it, which stands out so well from the grey clouds. Very well done.

Hello Malgo
I think we'd both now agree that Moldova is definitely worth a visit. To me it was a poor mans version of Romania. I also like the wider angled view better, as it shows 4 interesting buildings in a row. The incomplete one at right suggests more funds required! Tfs!

Hello Malgo, the golden stupa immediately attracts attention, and then we look downwards... oh dear!
The two parts obviously don't seem to go together.
Your notes are very interesting; I like your description of walking through this area, 'eye-popping'.
Thanks for sharing and telling us about this place.
Regards Jean.

Hi Malgo,
The subject is well framed. The point of view is showing the details of the Buddhist stupa. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrats to the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Malgorzata, that new construction seen in Soroca looks like a Buddhist stupa indeed. It is actually an orthodox church tower, i like its golden hue. Excellent vertical framing. Instructive text

Hi Malgo
I know you mentioned to me before that I was being "lazy" for not posting many photos lately. Well, i think i have a good excuse as I got married May 5th ) So its been busy for me :)
love this photo, but even more so i enjoy the WS 2 showing the street with even more ruined homes and buildings. I would have fun here :) Here in the main view we get to see a lot of rubble and the roughness of the local area, despite the brand new dome. great TE post
cheers

Hello Malgo,
Well, I don't know what to make out of this. Is is an old building in ruins or is it a new construction? Interesting, but those buildings in the workshop photos look a little eerie to me.

a surprising view of the building, it has rich details, looks like a religious temple, but looks brandnew and we can see trash at side. very strange and curious.
take care
