Photographer's Note
UPSIDE DOWN
The world is still turned upside down by new variants of the damned virus that keep popping up again and again that are even more contagious than the previous variant.
The Netherlands went into lockdown again just before Christmas. This time, the government has chosen fore better safe than sorry after having often opted for (too) optimistic measures.
Fortunately, we were able to visit some museums in the past period and today I show three scenes of our visit to the nice exhibition "The discovery of the Present in the Singer museum in Laren.
The first photo shows "The Parabolic Light" by Icelandic artist Olafur Eliason, whose work usually involves light. The parabolic mirror shows us the world UPSIDE DOWN.
The second photo shows how two ladies look at the work "Composition 1949" by Nicolas De Stal, a St Petersburg-born artist who at the age of 5 had to flee Russia in 1919 after the October Revolution.
The third picture shows a couple looking at the couple making love on a Painting of the
Hans Melgers, who a century ago was a member of the Groningen artists' association "De Ploeg" (The Plough)

Hi Rob,
In my province some restrictions started on december 20 to prevent more infections with the new variant. The point of view is showing the details of the artwork. The surrounding light is givinf good colors output. Have a nice day.

Goedemiddag Rob,
Onderste boven iets waar men maar moet opkomen
Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John.

Hello Rob,
It's fun again to see some pictures in your fairly distinctive style and choice of motifs. I saw a large show by Olafur Eliasson with Malgo at Moderna museet in 2015, but I can't remember anything being upside down then, but a lot of fascinating experiments with light and colours and confusing see-through panels. Of course this mirror is confusing enough, but I rest my eyes on the fine paintings admired by two persons each in the WS.
Best regards,
Gert

Nice idea for a picture with your first sentence on the note, Rob, the world is a bit skewed last 2 years...
Well executed this not-an-easy photo.
Few days ago I saw a documentary about Finland and the great architect Alvar Alto spoke few words there.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Rob,
This photo is an excellent metaphor for the state of the world right now. It's a simple, and well-executed scene, and I like it. :-) Take care!

Hello Rob, strict measures now in place in your country to try to curb the virus. Your phrase 'the world turned upside down' is very appropriate.
Three excellent shots, with the main post a very interesting presentation. The people don't seem real, they look like cardboard cut-outs! I think that it is because they are almost in silhouette.
Thanks for sharing. Let's hope that there will be a return to some kind of normality very soon.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Rob,
How good to see you posting on TE again!
I am always impressed by your sense of composition, which I can see you have applied to all your photographs.
This main photograph is delightful! Without any b/g distractions, the partly burned candle becomes the focal feature looking into the mirror and trying to make sense of the upside-down figures.
Excellent!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
We haven't ventured far, hoping to keep safe so that we can have a family reunion over Christmas. We haven't done that for the past two Christmases!

Hi Rob,a photo in a circular mirror is not new, but this one that reflects the reverse way is truly unique. Excellent archive shots, even the 2 WS are interesting and as always accompanied by adequate notes. Unfortunately I have seen that the countries of Northern Europe are again in great crisis due to the pandemic, in Italy it is better due to the introduction of the green pass which closes the doors to many activities for the unvaccinated, but we await the future effects of the variant. Omicron, let's hope well. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hallo Rob,
Hm, hier was ik ook bij, toch? Waarom kan ik me dit werk dan helemaal niet herinneren. Nou ja, gelukkig hebben we de foto's nog. De zaal en de bezoekers worden prachtig omgedraaid in de spiegel.

Hi Rob,
Lovely series of photos which show again people interacting with the art. Museums and art galleries are now a good choice for the terrible weather outside.
Nice inverted view here and we can even spot a bit of you in there. It looks almost as if the visitors were observing a 2 meters distance rule there.
Very well done,
M

Hi Rob
A great main one with the upside down world as it is. That image applied to the globe would have Australia on top.
2 good WS photos of people and art.
cheers

Hallo Rob,
Vele groeten, Paul
