Meeting in the fjord, a photo from Hordaland, South

Photographer's Note

During a walk on the island Fedje spring 2011, I came across this meeting in the fjord, the pilot boat stationed at Fedje and the small oilbunker-tanker Sotraoil. The oil base at Mongstad is right across the fjord. Because of falling oil prices, the industry are going through significant cost cuts with subsequent decline in employees.

Nice to see you here, and it's nice to see me here. Neither of us has been too active on Trekearth lately. I love this shot of one of my favorite areas of the world. It's a colorful shot with excellent exposure and depth-of-field. the extreme sharpness of the nameof the small boat is immediately eye-catching.

I like the "thirdsy" or "golden ratio" balance you've achieved in this composition. And I'm pleased that you haven't been tempted to overcook the saturation: there's plenty already. A very pleasing, if chilly-looking, photograph!

There is very good clarity in this excellent photo of this fjord in early spring. The position and colour of the boats make a lovely composition especially when seen against that lovely landscape and blue sky. Nice sense of movement too.

De tv� b蚯arna 舐 snyggt placerade i bilden och det magnifika landskapet 舐 verkligen vackert. Det m蚶ta ha varit en mycket angen舂 v蚌dag ute p� denna �. Betr. oljepriset kan jag ju konstatera och det nu 舐 mycket billigare f oss svenskar att 虧a till Norge, s� vi 虧er snart igen...

Hello Erling,
The title of your picture reminds me of my journey to Norway more than 30 years ago. Somewhere on my trip, I wanted to cross a fjord and asked if there was a boat sailing to a specific place. The answer was yes but I had to change in Midfjord. So I took the boat and started looking at my map where midfjord was. I didn't find it and all of a sudden a voice announced over a loudspeaker that we had arrived in Midfjord and passengers for that particular destination had to get off. To my surprise, we had to change from boat in the middle of the fjord. I should have known it but I didn't :)
Beautiful view of the two boats with some vibrant red in contrast with the deep blue of the water and the snowcapped peaks at the other side.

its always fun to capture ship photos like this, I do the same thing locally here in Vancouver.

Now when you can get some mountain ranges in the bg it makes it just that much better. its a photo thats very bright, colorful and well exposed. nice to see the "Bergen" on the back of the boat too.

Marvelous two vessels that added excelent motion "feel" to the Fjord scenery, Erling.
Snowy tops of the ridges contrast by blue sea, that by itself has some different tones.
Well lit and sharp image.
