Tram 22 to Carmo, a photo from Porto, North

Photographer's Note

In addition to modern light rail metro, Porto has also three heritage tram lines. The first horse drawn tram line was opened in 1874. One line was converted to steam traction in 1878. And electric traction was introduced in 1895. In 1950's the Porto tram system was at it's widest and had 30 lines. I'm not sure how well advertising fits with heritage trams but at least this looks fairly stylish.

Hello Kari,
I only remember very modern trams in Porto, even though I was there only a few years ago. With these bright red details it was of course necessary to take a photo of it. Coca Cola is probably part of the most cherished US cultural heritage, so it should be okay here.

ya i have to agree, the advertising somewhat ruins the charm of these old metro trams. But I guess everyone has to make money.
still, i'd prefer to see the tram without it. clear and concise shot. cheers

Hello Kari,

There is also a Carmo Convent in Lisbon, so it was a surprise to see Carmo in Porto as well. Good sharpness and plenty of breathing space right around the old tram. The bright red tones contrast well with the grey asphalt and blue sky. Tfs!

It is readition in Porto to keep those old trams going, indeed a wonderful sight when seeing them riding through town.
Colors in general, and the graffiti painted upon made it so charming picture.

I always link Porto with trams; we have had some lovely and diverse photographs of them on TE.
This is one such photograph!
It's clear, it's colourful and reveals the style of this lovely, old tram.Maybe the tram is running on the profits from Coca Cola!
