As Heaven is Wide, a photo from Madeira, Islands

Photographer's Note

Looking back at Madeira from near the end of S縊 Louren輟 peninsula, which is the east end of the island. The clouds love the 1800m. high mountains, and during my stay never left them. The peninsula is only accessible by walking, 3-4 hours return to the end from the end of the road.
12mm. focal length
0.6 Lee systems ND Grad filter probably used

The title is from a song by Garbage, which iTunes was playing on my computer at the time. Madeira is not exactly heaven, though it's a fine place.

Do you order these clouds in advance? When I travel the sky is usually milky when not overcast, and most of the time there is some haze as well. How do you manage to get these pristine conditions in most of your shots!? Very nicely composed and fine job with the polarizer - just as much as it was needed. Great spot to spend your February - here in our parts, the ground is still frozen solid a few feet deep.

a nice, wide angle landscape. i especially like the cloud firework in the far background and the rocky lead-on to it. overall excellent clarity, saturation and detail. nothing seems redundant. good work!

Hi, Tan. What a wonderful sky with those wispy clouds standing out against the deep blue. We follow the cliffs all the way to the background. The contrast between the green of the sides and the ocean is also very good. Excellent colours.

Great lookout point giving a deep scene to the rest of the island, and showing the mountaineous nature very well. I remember myself admiring this place when I was arriving at Madeira by plane. Looks like an excellent choice for a hike, and I guess not too many tourists go that far.

Ahh..., Nature with big open space, I feel like taking a deep breath and taking in all the fresh air. Very beautiful shot with great composition. Wonderful deep blue with various types of cloud dancing across the sky. Multi-layers of cliffs and sea scape creates such great 3D feel to the landscape. Absolutely splendid colors and light which you balanced adequately with just enough saturation and contrast yet still maintain the natural quality of the scenery. Thanks Tan, Enjoyed it.

Another typical example of your sense of space and getting it when it is the best with everything filling in at the right time and place. Colors and detail is defining and heaven might not be that far off. Or at least an idea to be, of what might heaven be to most of us, traveling photographer.
