Ski Chalet, a photo from Prahova, East

Photographer's Note

It was a very cold -4c at the summit of Bucegi Mountains. I look a few shots, headed for the cafe, had a hot coffee and immediately headed back down to the much warmer valley. Skifields can be incredibly cold and windy places! The elevation was 2,505 m at nearby Omu Peak but around 2,384 m here. In the bg is the snowcapped Munții Baiului National Park. Taken near Caraiman Peak. The wires at left are the cablecar close to the terminus. It was around +20c in Sinaia down in the valley when I left.

Hello Chris,
-4 ｰC wouldn't generally be regarded as very cold, but it depends on what you are prepared for. In this case I am sure you needed the hot coffee and to get back further down quickly. Without trembling hands you managed a good photo of this superb scenery with a well placed building in the foreground.

Hello Chris,
View down the slopes from 2505m height wonderfully appearing till the far summits.
Not much snow and that has given a nice contrast to the picture.
The sky chalet scaled the whole sight.

Hello Chris,

From the valley to the top of the ski slope created a massive change in temperature! I'm sure the coffee was very welcome!
This is a fine shot! You have positioned the cafe very well in the frame; the snow seems to wrap around it, guiding us warmly to its refuge.
Beyond, the dark mountains, capped with snow, make the cafe seem even more welcoming!

I looked at the photo and immediately knew where it was taken as I've got shots of this chalet, from a similar, if not the same, viewpoint, taken in winter (January, so a little bit more snow).
Great composition with the foreground complementing the mighty peaks in the distance.

from this pov we can see as the top of the mountains are prepared to receive the snow for many months while the forest grows in the lower areas. nice view.
we had lots of snow last night in southern Brazil, near here only frozen rain.

Hello Chris,
In those hot days this summer, maybe this winter photo will be a little refreshing. I also visited Sinaia once, but I didn't go for a mountain walk like you did. A great panorama of the mountains with the last snow and green valleys.
