Photographer's Note

From father, to son - event that marks the beginning of Festum Varadinum here in Oradea.

From father to son it's a fair where handicraftsmen show and teach children the secrets of traditional trades as: pottery making, egg decorating, sewing, basket making or even baking bread.

Hello Teodora,
A fine compo well titled, with nice tight framing, and the narrow DOF highlighting the master's hand, while his pupil, and son's hand is blurred... excellent sharp details and fine colors..
That is a good photo

Imi place 'suprapunerea' de maini si 'generatii' :). Superb FG (claritate, detalii), bun blur pt. BG (exact cat trebuie pt. a 'ghici' tineretea 'artistului').
O remarca: am impresia unei supra tente de albastru (am mai observat asta intr-o comp. anterioara) care pare cam 'nenaturala'... poate doar impresia mea (s-ar putea sa am nevoie de un control :))) ).

Hello Dora,

Excellent social commentary using two pairs of hands! The hands of an artisan at work, and his son learning. Your photo reminded me of a pair of letters with subliminal messages embeded in them. The scenario is meant to be the exhange of email between a student in a university, and his father.

Letter #1. From the Son to the father:

"Dear Dad,
$chool i$ great. I am making lot$ of friend$ and $tudying very hard. With all my $tuff I $imply can't think of anything I need. $o if you like, you can ju$t $end me a card, a$ I woul love to hear from you. Love,
Your $on

Letter #2. The response from the father;

"Dear Son,
I kNOw that astroNOmy, ecoNOmics, and oceaNOgraphy are eNOugh to keep even an hoNOr student busy. Do Not forget that the pursuit of kNOwledge is a NOble task, and you can never study enough.
Love,
Dad"

Teodora, that is a wonderful symbiosis between your shot and the title. It says everything and I just have to contemplate the photography and be amazed about the great framing that you gave to the scene. Excellent exploration with the blurred DOF.

Ol� Dora, great close up approach of these hands that can be so expressive as facial expressions. Very good choice of this one as the main post. Love the details and to see the blurred hand of the boy in the background, waiting for his turn.

This is really superb Teo. the focus on the hand....seen for the first time is worth appriciating. The flux of raw and dry mud on the hand makes the composition more interesting.

I like the fact you chose to focus on the hands, Dora, the highly trained tools of these people's art. It reminds us of how well-trained they need to be, to put always just the rght amount of pressure in the right spot to result in a work of art. Having more clay-covered hands as background context makes the photo a work of art, too. Well done! Regards, Ken.
