The Sighișoara Clock Tower (Romanian: Turnul cu Ceas din Sighișoara) is a prominent historical building located in the small town of Sighișoara (Transylvania, Romania). The tower is also known as the Council Tower, because it functioned as such between the 14th and 16th centuries.

The Clock Tower is 64 meters high, of which 39.5 meters is formed by the roof that is finished in the shape of a needle, it also has four turrets on the sides. It is the most important of the nine defense towers of the Sighisoara fortress that have survived to date (out of a total of 14). The tower is located in the southeast of the city and is visible from anywhere in the center of Sighișoara.

The building was built in the 14th century to protect the main gate of the city. Destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt in 1677 in the Baroque style with the tower pinnacle inspired by the castle tower of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. It is from 1648 when the clock from Switzerland is placed on the top of the tower (with wooden figurines that symbolize the days of the week). At the top of the tower there is a meteorological rooster on a small golden sphere, which predicts the weather.

In the Middle Ages the tower was defended by regular soldiers. Currently the tower houses the Museum of History, in addition, close to it is the house where Vlad III the Impaler was born, converted into a restaurant and with the bust of this historical figure. Today the Clock Tower is the symbol of Sighișoara and is located in the historic center of the city, declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 by Unesco.

La Torre del Reloj de Sighișoara (en rumano: Turnul cu Ceas din Sighișoara) es un destacado edificio histico situado en la peque ciudad de Sighișoara (Transilvania, Rumania). La torre es tambi駭 conocida como Torre del Consejo, porque funcion� como tal entre los siglos XIV y XVI.

La Torre del Reloj mide 64 metros altura, de los cuales 39,5 metros lo forma el tejado que est� rematado en forma de aguja, adem疽 tiene cuatro torrecillas a los lados. Es la m疽 importante de las nueve torres de defensa de la fortaleza de Sighisoara que se han conservado hasta la fecha (de un total de 14). La torre est� situada en el sureste de la ciudad y es visible desde cualquier lugar del centro de Sighișoara.

El edificio fue construido en el siglo XIV para proteger la puerta principal de la ciudad. Destruida por un incendio, fue reconstruida en 1677 en estilo barroco con el pin當ulo de la torre inspirado en la torre del castillo de la Catedral de San Vito en Praga. Es a partir de 1648 cuando se coloca el reloj proveniente de Suiza en la cumbre de la torre (con figurillas de madera que simbolizan los d僘s de la semana). En la punta de la torre se encuentra en una peque esfera de oro un gallo meteorolico, que predice el tiempo.

En la Edad Media la torre fue defendida por soldados regulares. Actualmente la torre acoge el Museo de Historia, adem疽, cerca de la misma se encuentra la casa en donde naci� Vlad III el Empalador convertida en un restaurante y con el busto de este personaje histico. En la actualidad la Torre del Reloj es el s匇bolo de Sighișoara y se encuentra en el centro histico de la ciudad, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1999 por la Unesco.

Hello Luis,
This clock tower is one of the most impressive buildings I have seen in recent years. By its size and design it creates a marvellous atmosphere. You placed it well in this photo at the end of a line of charming houses, including the one where "Dracula" was born. I am sure Dracula souvenirs could be bought in the next shop. Some people animate the view and the light and colours are pleasant.

Hola Luis,
Wonderfully captured the tower in full view from the cobblestones road up the top.The clock and colorful turrets worth a full zoom upon, in my opinion - i'd do just that.
Anyway, there is good sense of depth and fine contrast with the houses on right side.

Hola Luis,

You must have been delighted when you came upon this scene, so very photogenic! You positioned your camera perfectly to obtain the best angle, to include the lovely mustard-coloured house and the clock tower.
The textural details are delightful!
The figures enliven the scene as well as scale it. It appears that one figure is squatting, taking a closer shot of the tower. I suggest yours will be a better one!

The tower is so wide that it is difficult to guess it's height. 64 m is quite impressive number. That rusty clock is certainly special. People walking around without hurries creates cosy feeling.

I remember this beautiful clock tower of Sighișoara.
Nice presentation with the well maintained houses with their colourfully painted facades in the foreground.
My impression is that the town has really improved after my visit in 2005.
Yet at the time this was also my favourite place in Romania.

Hola Luis,
ah so this is the famous tower which we could see from a distance in the previous photo.
It is quite unique and therefore recognizable.
The weather not optimal here but you dealt with that perfectly. The colors so vivid that the bright sky does not disturb.
