10 The Parterre, is one of the areas that attracts the most attention in the Retiro Park, the French Parterre is located on the west side of the Retiro Park, right at the door that points to the Casn del Buen Retiro and the Paseo del Meadow.
The construction of the Parterre is the result of a reform projected in the reign of Felipe V in the 18th century, who is said to have not quite liked the surroundings of the old Retiro Palace, where he settled.
It was located in the old garden of the eight streets, also called the octagonal garden, in which eight paths crossed in a circular square. The idea of Felipe V was to build a royal French-style site, of very large dimensions, on the outskirts of the city of Madrid. However, of all that project, only this garden was executed, the so-called French Parterre del Parque del Retiro.
The French parterre of the Retiro Park is, without a doubt, a peculiar space worthy of admiration on your visit to the green lung of Madrid. It is made up of a geometric layout of paths, with perfectly trimmed hedges and flowers of all colors inside its flowerbeds. All this is adorned by fun cypress trees trimmed with whimsical and striking shapes.
But without a doubt, what draws the most attention about this flat garden with hardly any large trees is the one considered the oldest tree in the city. As we enter through the door on the west side that connects it with the Casn del Buen Retiro, we find the ahuehuete, also known as bald cypress, which they say has been in that same place since before the reforms that gave rise to these gardens, even that it was already there when the Retiro Park was inaugurated for the first time, so it could be more than four centuries old.

Hello Luis,
This is an elegant composition with both buildings and the fountain forming a triangle of strong eye-catchers. The fountain also provides good reflections. The WS also well composed although I find the colours slightly strong.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Luis,
Such a lovely view of the park and the surrounding buildings, which look really good and colourful in this bright sunlight. The calm water of the fountain adds some fine reflections, too. The background has got many details on offer.

Hello Luis,
I cannot immediately recall this part of El Retiro. Not that I've ever seen a similar photo before.
A well thought out composition with very attractive colours and reflections.
The photo has a summery brightness, even though it was taken in October.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Luis, three excellent shots that give us a good impression of the Parterre.
In your main picture the stone ornament is nicely set to one side so that we can see the footpath leading to the decorated arch. The reflections are quite special too.
The flowers add lovely colour to all three pictures.
A very photogenic place.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Luis
WS #2 could easily be a main shot as well.
who can resist these water reflection fountain shots :)
its as if they're built for us photographers.
this city looks to have such great architecture and many street scenes to be captured. For some reason the person sitting on the bench to the right looks funny :) cheers

Hola Luis,
I remember seeing this corner of the park in frontt of the Prado, it was during our 03/2000 visit. Pity i do not have any photo from there.
Wondertfully combined sight, with the trees behind the pond leading the viewer forwards to mthe entrance of the museum.
Buenas dias,
Ike

Hola Luis,
The pool and its reflections could have made a photograph in its own right but it is strongly backed by the colourfully flowered gardens.
The seated figure is strongly placed in your composition and seems to be making a visual link with the sculpture in the centre of the pool.
The b/g buildings are varied and attractive, making a useful barrier, to keep attention on the parterre.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hola Luis,
great composition from well selected angle which allowed you to include so many attractive elements in one shot.
The reflection in the fountain makes the foreground quite eye catching but the really elegant view starts further with splendid architecture.
Excellent work,
