Uppsala Domkyrka

This is a photo from the city of Uppsala, located some 70 km north of Stockholm and the fourth largest city in city with almost 150,000 inhabitants. Uppsala is home to the largest cathedral in Scandinavia, Uppsala Domkyrka (Uppsala Cathedral), which you can see here. Being the seat of the archbishop of the Church of Sweden, Uppsala has been the ecclesiastical centre of Sweden since 1164. The cathedral dates to the late 13th century and its twin spires are 119m tall, making it the tallest church in the Nordic countries.

Uppsala is also known for its university, Uppsala Universitet, which was founded in 1477. The university is most famous for botanist Carl Linnaeus and the invention of the Celsius temperature scale. The building in front of the cathedral is Gustavianum, the oldest building of the university, built in the first half of the 17th century. It has been the university museum since 1997. The photo was taken at Universitetsparken, right in front of the current main building of the university. The statue of historian Erik Gustaf Geijer, several times rector of the university in the first half of the 19th century is at the heart of the park.

Lep pogled, interesantan i dobar tekst ...
Dobar rad, lepo poakzano mesto sa zelenim drvecen i arhitektura, dobar kontrast i ostrina, lepe boje, lepo uhvacen trenutak. Lep park i kule katedrale.
Lepo mesto za setnju odmor u hladu drveca.
Dobar tekst o tehnici i elementima snimka.

We do not get many photos from this beautiful town, though we had one member from there lobg ago.
Fabulous summer bright day, show superbly the details of the double turrets and the church building through the green trees and garden.
Placed the statue off-center, gave yet another element to the scene.

Hi Lars,a very interesting post,especially to a fan of insects and butterflies like me. Linnaeus is one of the most important man in the world of identification of insect,and it's very nice now to know that it found a university there. I never had seen an image of this town. nice view with these towers in evidence. I liked the shapes of this architecture and the way you used the elements like the sculpture. the image looks tilted but the sculpture isn't. curious distortion.

Good choice of the vertical frame to emphasise the height of the twin spires. I like the inclusion of the statue, which makes an interesting frame for the cathedral. Perfect exposure with excellent colours and sharpness.

Hello Lars,

This could be a good advert forUppsala and encourage people to visit. The glorious light and profusion of colourful flowers add to the attraction of the cathedral, with its distinctive twin spires. (You know a good title might have been 'Twin Peaks' though something different might have been expected!)
You have used the entrance well and captured fresh, clear images.
At another time of the year, when the leaves have fallen, you may be able to get a view showing further details of the cathedral.

This is a crisp and clear photo with wonderful colours, a good composition and as much information that could possibly be asked for. Except that as a tribute to Linnaeus (later von Linn�), you should have told us everything about the trees and flowers. ;-)

The trees are framing well the cathedral. I like the inclusion of the monument in the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the cathedral. THe good luminosity is enhancing the ebauty of the colours. Have a nice day.

Gelukkig dat er meer mensen reizen, ik reis gewoon mee met de foto's dat jullie maken.
De twee symmetrische torens buiten de klok gerekend.
Maar ook de tuin ervoor met standbeeld zijn heel mooi om naar te kijken.
Heerlijke samenstelling, gepaste kleuren en perfecte scherpte.

looks very similar to the Cathedral in Stockholm.
I really like the statue on the left, for some reason it holds alot of power in the scene despite its lack of height compared to the Cathedral - strange right? but it works well. classic scene, very attractive. cheers

Hallo Lars,
Je bent ook naar Uppsala geweest. Een heel mooi en aangenaam stadje. Ik heb lang geleden ook een foto van de Domkyrka opgeladen maar vanuit een totaal andere hoek genomen.
Toch herinner ik me deze tuin en het standbeeld.
Goede compositie. Heel helder. Een mooi contrast tussen de roodbruine torens, de blauwe lucht en het vele groen onderaan.

Een mooie herinnering aan een heerlijke wandeling door deze beroemde Zweedse universiteitsstad. Je zou kunnen zeggen het Leiden van Zweden. Ik kan me nog herinneren dat ik deze torens omstreeks 1980 voor het eerst zag toen we Upsala ca. 10 km links van ons lieten liggen op weg naar Stockholm.

Dag Lars Eventhought the statue is in a sullen mood, it draws up a pleasing visual balance, compared to the bells towers 'rubber necking' above the trees, making shure they will be seen! Groeten

The towers of Uppsala Cathedral, look magnificent against that blue sky, when I visited this city I was not so lucky on a gray-rainy day and ugly, pretty POV with these park details in the foreground.
A nice color, in these natural tones.
Also both the sharpness and the lighting are great.
