Photographer's Note
The great day for Poland
he Nobel Prize award ceremony takes place at the Stockholm Concert Hall, Sweden, on 10 December every year the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. At the ceremony, the Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and the Prize in Economic Sciences are awarded to the Nobel Laureates. The Nobel Prize for Literature (for the year 2018) was awarded to the Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk.
PhD Per W舖tberg, Member of the Swedish Academy, Member of the Nobel Committee for Literature, said:
Polish literature shines on Europe several Nobel prizes, and now a bard of global stature and rare breadth, poetic and humourous. Poland, Europe痴 crossroads, perhaps its heart its history exposes to Olga Tokarczuk a victim ravaged by great powers but with its own history of colonialism and anti-semitism. She does not retreat from unpalatable truth, even under threat of death. [...]
Ms Tokarczuk, the Swedish Academy congratulates you. Please receive your Nobel Prize from the hand of His Majesty the King.
Watching this, I was happy, proud and so moved that the tears rolled down my cheeks.
Earlier Olga Tokarczuk delivered wonderful lecture
, very beautiful and interesting.
Exactly four years ago I came to Stockholm. In the early afternoon, I went for a walk in Gamla Stan. I saw that the Palace of the Swedish Academy was open free. I observed the ceremony on the big screen and visited the interesting museum. Later, I went to see the Concert Hall. When I came there, all guests probably left the hall for the Royal Banquet in the City Hall.

Hi Malgo
She was much less controversial than this years winner.
I can't say I've ever read anything from Poland. Maybe you can make some suggestions for me - I prefer more literary books.
Cheers

Hello Malgo!
Congratulations on the Nobel Prize for Polish author Olga Tokarczuk! As I'm retired now, I hope to find time for some really good literature, but there is still a pile of a dozen books waiting to be read before.
As to German-speaking, but Austrian author Peter Handke: I find it very difficult to separate his really good writing from his attitude towards the Serbs. My elder son was engaged in filming a documentary about atrocities in the Balcans war, especially Srebrenica. You simply cannot deny that persons were shot, first buried in mass graves and then their corpses eventually removed with bulldozers, so the mortal leftovers of a single person can found in up to ten different places and be identified by DNA analysis.
He ought to be able to see that and not insult questioning journalists.
Have a good advent!
Sven

Hello Malgo,
Another well timed photo, after Piotr's. It's also a nice photo with fine colours and lots of interesting focal-points, including the silhouettes of people in the left corner. If you don't have much to do during the next few weeks you could try to read something by Olga Tokarczuk. ;-)
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Malgo
Lovely picture and a moving tribute to Olga Tokarczuk in your note. I read some of her earlier novels several years ago (and really liked them), but I haven't gotten around to reading any of her recent work, which is what got her the Noble Prize.
Feel free to recommend a novel to start with...

Pozdrawiam serdecznie

Ty odwiedzilas Sztokholm w dniu wreczania nagrody!
Ciekawa prezentacja
pozdrawiam

malgo
since they gave a prize for a singer I didn't pay so much attention to this prize, anyway they never pay attention to literature in portuguese language. I guess it is difficult to evaluate a foreign literature if you don't know the language, because translations are ever not perfect.
nice view of the historic moment for poland. I can understand your feelings.
take care

Hello, good post dedicated to the Polish writer who won the Nobel prize for literature. The palace of the Swedish academy building is grandiose with its lights, its columns, its big screen. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.
