Photographer's Note

When I took this photo I was actually not in one of the baskets but rather laying on my back in the wet morning grass trying to focus on the balloons fastly moving out of my field, getting a little smaller with each breath. I love the pffff tones that come from the burners and every once in a while you might see a harmless fire in the sky when they add power. There is a wonderful excitement that goes along with each start and nobody cared if I was actually crawling through the grass looking pretty stupid. They had the fourth morning in a row with early starts and they all looked wild, adventurous and certainly not shaved and hardly showered but eager to go up and see what the sky had for them, where they would end, if there was a good place to land again, and I assure you that some of the landings in the mountains look pretty spectacular. I love to sleep in sometimes and there was a certain temptation to roll around on this beautiful Sunday morning but you forget a short night sleep immediately once you see the fabric rolled out on the ground and when they fill the balloon with air there is certainly no photographer that can be hold back � you just dive in!

Hahaha, funny note about laying in the grass. I really had the idea that you were flying there. I'm wondering why you went for such a shallow depth of focus. That could be a bit wider, but still a very nice compo!!

Funny to think of you lying in the grass taking this picture and too bad there wasn't another photographer to take a picture of you at work... would have made a good WS. The result was quite worthwhile and I like this minimalistic compo with the different sized ballons fly high.

Hi Barbara,
I was sure that you were on the balloon. The big curve of the closest one makes that illusion perfect, and works well on the composition. Knowing how big those are, they rise really high over there. I guess it makes sense on a mountain region.

you are really good at this kind of minimalistic photos, Barbara, I hope you know that :) quite often I go back to your blue/white winter photos just to admire them. and this photo has the same qualities - pure colours, clean shapes, elegant composition where just a few lines describe whole scene. love it :)

I love the contrast here between the blue segment of balloon in the corner and the tiny colourful balloons already up in the sky. Your crawling-through-the-grass POV has captured a wonderful feeling of space... pfff pfff and we池e up there, floating like soap bubbles into the blue immensity of the sky. And a very beautiful and inviting blue it is too�

This is truly a very original and creative way of showing the hot air balloons. The simple composition is very effective and gives us a very good sense of size and distance. The other two photos are spectacular too, in particular the 塗ot air�. Well done.

Salut Barbara,
Als Kleinbild sah es schon ganz interessant aus, wie abstrakt und zu klein zu realisieren, dass diese Dinge im blauen Meer eigentlich Luftballons im Himmel sind, mit dem normalen Bild wird klar, war du hier aufgenommen hast, der Blickwinkel find ich gut, eventuell 2 stops zumachen, mit 18mm ist es wohl mlich. Hoffentlich warst du nicht zu nass, um 07.00 morgens muss es noch ziemlich kalt sein...

Beautiful ballons against a clear blue sky, though I wonder why there are curved horizontal streaks in the sky. Maybe a result of compression? Did you happen to see anyone looking down from above with a camera and taking your picture? :-)

This is a very nice shoot, all the effort is word it, even though you might look stupid to some, but you're our heroine here, as the feedback has proved. I was just in Switzerland 2 weeks ago, and I have seen many of these up in the sky on nice days. I知 not sure I want to be one of this. My knee get weak on the fifth floor looking down. Thanks for taking me there with me being there, and thank for the nice comments.

dieses Bild ist mir vollkommen entgangen. Tut mir wirklich Leid nicht frueher aufgekreuzt zu haben. Hoffentlich hat Dich dies nicht in eine groessere Depression gestuertzt! :-)
Das Bild mit den verschiedenen Heissluftballons auf verschiedene Hoehe is einfach fantastisch. Eine regelrechte 3-D Animation. Der Trick mit dem vordersten Ballon im rechten Teil des Bildes ist einfach genial!

Une tr鑚 chouette composition Barbara, avec ce ballon tout pr鑚 et les autres loin d駛�, sur la vignette j'avais l'impression que c'騁ait une photo du cosmos:-). Un magnifique ciel bleu et une impression de r黐e et de libert�. Tu as bien su utiliser les diff駻ents plans, j'aime beaucoup.

I love how you've framed this with the near balloon contrasted with the more distant ones. From a compositional standpoint, it would have been better had the near balloon been red or yellow to stand out more against the sky. Not much you could do about that, though. :-)

Salut Barbara, when I saw the thumbnail I thought it was a shot of the planetary system!! When I opened it I was surprised to see so many balloons and, by the look of them, rapidly disappearing into the stratosphere! Great shot with fantastic colours and the thought of you lying on wet grass conjures up some curious images! lol :-)

It痴 always a pleasure hearing from you.
What an amazing shot! I wondered how this POV was obtained, before reading your note. Absolutely wonderful & original as the balloons of various sizes (because of the differential height) dot the blue sky. IMHO inclusion of the huge one to the left is crucial for the compo.as the depth (or height?) increases...looking at this for quite some time..a poetic composition if I may say!

this is pure genius!! The composition is really different. It's a chance that the sky was so blue, it's refreshing! Big balloons, medium balloons, small balloons. Like a constellation...or electrons around an atom...

The presence of the big ballon on the right is the masterpiece of your composition. And that it is blue makes it blend perfectly to the rest. If it was red or orange, it would take too much attention on the picture and it would unbalance the composition.

So, congratulations for this nice picture!!

Ein wirklich sehr sches Bild, solche Fotots sieht man hier wirklich nicht h舫fig. Ein Ballonflug ist auch etwas, was ich schon immer machen wollte, ist bestimmt ein sches Erlebnis. Das zeigt ja auch dein Bild. Klasse Farben, ein wunderscher tiefblauer und klarer Himmel und dazu ein toller Bilduafbau. Oben rechts der Teil vom eigenen Ballon und von unten links herauf die verschieden farbigen anderen Ballons des Festivals. Dazu klasse Sch舐fe und ein sehr passender Rahmen, wirklich toll :-)

The idea is very good and the really excellent centring with this piece of balloon on the right, blue as the sky.

Hi Barbara--You managed to create foreground and distance with a shot looking up at the sky, not so easy to do! It's nice that the foreground balloon is blue, so it doesn't completely dominate the frame as it would if it were, say, red. It kind of reminds me of an Australian flag with the Union Jack removed. C'estr un peu simpliste dans le contenu, mais de nombreuses qualit駸 ind駭iables. Une bonne profondeur, mais cette fois en altitude, un cadrage efficace qui nous place dans une nacelle. Les ballons se d騁achent bien, le ciel bleu, un cadeau inesp駻�.

your tiny little baloons reminded me of when we were kids
and blowing soap bubbles that wind would lift up
in the air, and then we would compete whose bubble is
going to last the longest...
It's just one big metaphor for playing, for me - wrapped in
that innocent blue colour.
