Pokrovsky Cathedral Church (Piously-Pokrovsky cathedral) in centre Akhtyrka - the magnificent monument of architecture built in 1753-1768 under the guidance of architect S.Dudinskogo and with the assistance of V.V.Rastrelli and D.V.Uhtomsky.
In a cathedral there is a wonder-working Akhtyrka icon of Divine Mother, which has been shown on July, 2nd, 1739 in the city of Akhtyrka of the Kharkov province (nowadays the Sumy region, Ukraine). The image from which the light proceeded, has been found by the priest of the Pokrovsky temple Vasily Danilov in a grass during a haymaking. In 1751 the Holy Synod has decided to esteem the Akhtyrka icon as wonder-working. In 1768 on the donation of empress Elizabeth on a place of the phenomenon of an icon the stone Pokrovsky cathedral has been constructed (it is put in pawn under the decree of the empress in 1753; architect F.B.Rastrelli) in which the icon was up to its abduction in 1903. Now the Ahtyrsky icon is in conducting Sydney archbishop Ilarion. In 1995 the metropolitan Kharkov Nikodime has brought the true copy of icon and has transferred it in the Akhtyrka Pokrovsky cathedral.

Hi Sergiy,
Very nice church well taken, although there is a bit too much bend on the horizon.
Best,
Jeremy

Hello Sergiy,
A very special point of view leading to a unique original perspective. And this with splendid colours.
