Photographer's Note
Faversham is a market town and civil parish in the Swale district in the county of Kent, England, United Kingdom.
The town is 48 miles from London and 10 miles from Canterbury and lies next to the Swale, a strip of sea separating mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey in the Thames Estuary. It is close to the A2, which follows an ancient British trackway which was used by the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons, and known as Watling Street. The name Faversham derives from Latin via Old English origin, meaning "the metal-worker's village".
There has been a settlement at Faversham since pre-Roman times, next to the ancient sea port on Faversham Creek, and archaeological evidence has shown a Roman theatre was based in the town. It was inhabited by the Saxons and mentioned in the Domesday book as Favreshant. The town was favoured by King Stephen who established Faversham Abbey, which survived until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1538.
Subsequently, the town became an important seaport and established itself as a centre for brewing, the Shepherd Neame Brewery, founded in 1698, remains a significant employer.

Hello Stephen,
You have given us a fascinating note about the history of Faversham and a fine photograph to accompany it.
These look to be rather attractive buildings and you have captured them very well in this fine composition in which the cobbled edge of the roadway leads the eye nicely into the distance.
I'm not sure if this is a scan of a slide or print or if it is an early digital image but, whatever it is, it is of excellent quality with true colours and excellent detail and clarity.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Stephen,
Kent is a county that I have never really explored , though obviously I should!
This is an attractive street, with an eclectic mix of pretty houses.
Your nicely angled shot includes the lampposts, too, and creates a fine sense of perspective.
I just love that a street is called Back Alley, possibly better than Back Passage, seen in Didsbury!
I would love to metal detect, here. It is such an anciently settled place!
Thanks for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Hello Stephen,
This is a very pretty and tidy street. All buildings have their own colours and design (more or less), which makes the view quite lively even though the only persons are seen in the distance. Judging from when this was taken this is either a perfectly made scan or an early digital photo. In either case the colours and light are very nice.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Stephen
What a beautiful view of the row of houses with the pastel shades of the walls contrasting with the reds and the browns. You got the perfect sky with the clouds perfectly positioned. The potted flowers in the foreground and the small group of people further down are very attractive elements with the lamppost serving as an effective anchor
Cheers!

Hi Stephen,
The diagonal line of the sidewalk is giving dynamism to the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the facade of the houses. The light is bringing out the beauty of the colours. Have a nice day.

Hi Stephen
A charming capture! It is so vibrant and colourful with an arty twist full of local character. An enticing and attractive perspective full of amazing detail, I bet the local tourist board would like to get this one in their brochure. Looks wonderful.
Best regards

Hello Stephen, streets such as this present so much history.
The buildings are all quite different in shapes and features.
Good composition where you managed to make the shot without any parked cars!
The flowers and the street sign complete the scene.
Informative notes.
Kind regards
Jean

Hi Stephen
I want to see what's down that Black Alley or Back Alley street, maybe something fun is lurking down there :)
it really does have a timeless feel and atmosphere here.
Feels pretty quite and easy going, no hustle and bustle.
Even the photo feels like it was taken back in the 60's or something. pleasing scene indeed. cheers
Craig
